Superhero
Nick Howard Lyrics

And I hate it, yes I do, when I see your tears
But I’m here, yes I’m here, put your head upon my shoulder
I’ll be more, than you need, I can be your man of steel
I’ve made mistakes and I’ve gone back on my word
By take my hand I’ll fly us right off this earth
Now we’re gonna fly above the clouds tonight, shoot beyond the stars
Don’t matter that I’m scared up here with you I don’t look down
You can be my angel and I’ll, be your superhero now
I know it’s hard, I can see we’re at a crossroads
But there’s more, so much more, that I wish I could explain
I can’t wait, no I can’t wait, for us to star in the next sequel
Where I’ll play the part of Clark, and you’ll be my Miss Lane
I know I’m not perfect but I’m trying to change
If I take off this disguise I might just save you today
Now we’re gonna fly above the clouds tonight, shoot beyond the stars
I’m gonna wear this cape and show you what a superhero does
Don’t matter that I’m scared up here with you I don’t look down
You can be my angel and I’ll, be your superhero now
I need to take off all this kryptonite so I can make you see
The underneath these glasses is a man I’m trying to be
I’d fly a million miles if it’d mean I’d get to see
A movie where I’d play the king, and you could be my queen
So let’s go fly
So let’s go fly
Now we’re gonna fly above the clouds tonight, shoot beyond the stars
I’m gonna wear this cape and show you what a superhero does
Don’t matter that I’m scared up here with you I don’t look down
You can be my angel and I’ll, be your superhero now
Be your superhero now
Be your superhero now
I’ll be your superhero now
I’ll be your superhero now
I’ll be your superhero now
Nick Howard’s song Superhero is a love song from a man to his partner, expressing his desire to protect her from the dangers and uncertainties of life. In the first verse, he acknowledges her fear of what’s to come and assures her that he’s there for her, comforting her by offering his shoulder to lean on. He also promises to be her “man of steel,” referencing Superman’s superhuman abilities and invincibility.
The second verse implies some struggles in their relationship, stating that they’re at a crossroads, but there’s much more for them to explore together. The singer wants to keep trying to be a better man for her and take off his “disguise” to reveal his true self. Ultimately, the chorus repeats its message: they’ll fly beyond the clouds and the stars, with him wearing a cape and being her superhero, protecting her from harm.
The song’s lyrics are a metaphor for the challenges that couples go through in life, where one partner takes on the role of protector and the other takes on the role of being supported. By using the imagery of superheroes, the singer strengthens the message of his protection and support.
