Walk In The Park
Nick Straker Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A walk in the park.
I've got to get some sense
Back into my head.
I`m in the dark.
And I can`t see
Where I`m being led.
I`d give the world
To set the clock back
And act like a man.
Where can I turn
To save myself from this confusion.

[Chorus:]
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.

A walk in the park.
Away from all
The busy streets of my mind.
I seek a straighter path.
I seek a shady clay in which to unwind.
But why do we go on.
In spite of mistakes.
In spite of destruction.
Life can be fun
Depending on the situation.

[Chorus x2]
A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park, a trip in the dark.
I`m getting away, escaping today.

A walk in the park, a step in the dark.
A walk in the park. [Repeat: x1]
I`m getting away.

A walk in the park. [Repeat: x1]
I`m getting away.

Overall Meaning

The song A Walk in the Park by Nick Straker Band is a reflective piece that deals with feelings of confusion and a desire to escape the pressures of life. The opening lines illustrate the need for the singer to regain control of his thoughts and feelings by taking a step back from the chaos that surrounds him. Stuck "in the dark" and unable to make out where his direction is leading him, he is searching for a sense of clarity and purpose.

The chorus reveals the singer's escape route: a walk in the park. This simple act of detaching from the everyday hustle and bustle, even for just a moment, could provide a much-needed respite from the confusion and pressure he is experiencing.

The second verse touches on the fact that life can be complicated and often filled with mistakes and destruction. However, the singer seems to believe that it can still be enjoyable given the right circumstances. He acknowledges that despite the difficulties he may face, he is still "getting away," both physically and mentally, and that this escape is an essential part of his journey to finding a clearer path forward.

Overall, A Walk in the Park is a contemplative song that touches on the need for clarity, purpose, and escape in our everyday lives. It highlights the importance of taking care of ourselves and finding ways to escape the pressures that can come with living in an overwhelming world.

So I guess the marketing tactic worked. This is what happens when they market music to non-musicians. Just make sure the actual music is the least important part.

If people enjoy it (and the comments show they do) surely it must have some merit?

1979 was indeed one of the best years ever. Man, I was 15 and just starting to flourish as an adult. Life REALLY began happening for me. I remember riding my BMX bike, going to arcades and hearing "My Sharona" for the first time, blaring out the arcade doors. I stopped and just grooved my ass off, as was everyone else. Magical times. If you were born in the early/mid-60's, then you are blessed with having been born at the best time in history.

spot on... I remember the amusement arcades, football on the park, school discos, tough but fair local policeman, paper rounds, top shelf magazines, long summer days, snowy walks to school... total innocence in our early teens compared to today....God I feel old.
