we can still be friends {2
comon lets pretend
that when love ends
we can still be friends
life is so different

but everything i do goes soo wrong
and i dont think im gonna find someone like you again
but we can still be friends

and im so sorry to see you go
and i dont think im gonna find someone like you again

Overall Meaning

The Nick Straker Band's song We Can Still Be Friends is a post-breakup song that expresses the desire to maintain a friendly relationship even after a romantic relationship has ended. The song opens with an invitation to pretend that the love between the couple has ended and accepts the reality of being just friends. The lyrics express the nostalgia and pain that follows a breakup and the difficulty in moving on. The singer admits that he has tried to hold on, but everything he does seems to go wrong, and he acknowledges the impossibility of finding someone like his ex-girlfriend again. However, he still hopes they can "pretend" and remain friends.

The chorus repeats the song title, emphasizing the theme of friendship after a breakup. The singer acknowledges that the image of his ex-girlfriend's face is still present in his mind, no matter how hard he tries to forget her. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus and the music playing, reminding the listeners that even though the relationship has ended, the memories and experiences shared can still be cherished.

Overall, the song We Can Still Be Friends is a bittersweet reminder of the complexities of romantic relationships and the importance of maintaining healthy communication and respect even after a breakup.

I've only ever heard this played once before and that was a long time ago - virtually forgotten! And I didn't even recognise the artist. Until last night.. my god! A good friend of mine dropped this into one of his mixes - I could not believe what I was hearing! I've said it before and I'll say again.. there are just some songs that give you so much pleasure and pain at the same time. This is one of them. So, so lovely. Thanks for the post Captn! ;)
