Sombody More Like You
Nickel Creek Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I didn't hear you say you're sorry
The fault must be mine
I wish you all the best of luck at
Finding somebody more like you

You said you'd love me always truly
I must have changed
'Cause you don't need me like you used to
I hope you find somebody more like you

I hope you finally find someone
Someone that you trust
And give him everything
I hope you meet someone your height
So you can see eye to eye
With someone as small as you

You came out of nowhere and made me smile
Then tore me in two
Saying we're very different people so dear

I hope you find somebody more like you
I hope you find somebody more like you

Overall Meaning

The song "Somebody More Like You" by Nickel Creek speaks about the end of a relationship where one person is acknowledging that they are not the right fit for the other person. The singer of the song is expressing their frustration with the situation, as they didn't hear the other person say they're sorry, and instead they take on the fault for the breakup, even though they wish the other person the best of luck finding someone more like them.

The song's lyrics continue with the singer lamenting about how they must have changed and grown apart from their partner, to the point where their partner doesn't need them like they used to. The singer hopes that their ex will eventually find someone they can trust and be with that fits more closely with their personality and lifestyle. The singer also throws in a few remarks about physical attributes, such as hoping their ex finds someone their height so they can "see eye to eye with someone as small as you."

Overall, the song captures the sadness and frustration of a failing relationship, as well as the desire to move on and find someone who is a more compatible fit.

@Edward Morris - Every musician who has toured knows this ...good job interpreting Chris's words...

@Alex Bland It's not unrequited love. It's about a guy who's gotten swallowed by stardom and has lost sight of the only thing that matters. It's about a man caught between fame and love. And it's blinding him. And the truth can only come out as he talks in his sleep. Why he says "Don't say a word" is interesting. I'd think a man in his position would want it known... oh well. Who knows? It's a cool song!

Alex Bland

I think it's about unrequited love.
