After completing high school, Nicki moved to Sydney to study jazz at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music and shortly after began to play with well-known Australian musicians such as Mike Nock, Dale Barlow, Paul Grabowsky, Bernie McGann, and Ten Part Invention. She also toured Australia with Russian musicians Daniel Kramer and Alexander Fischer and American trumpeters Bobby Shew and Chuck Findley.
Nicki studied with various bassists in Australia, and when visiting bassists such as Ray Brown and John Clayton were in town, Nicki would take a lesson with them. She is also the recipient of two awards, the first being a scholarship to Pan Pacific Music Camps at the age of 16, and first place in the 1992 Jazz Action Society’s Annual Song Competition for her composition "Come and Get It", which is the opening track of Nicki and Lisa’s debut CD. She was also nominated for the annual Australian Young Achievers Award by the Arts Council of Australia who granted her the funds to head to New York to study with Rufus Reid.

I Will Wait for You
Nicki Parrott Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
for a thousand summers I will wait for you
till you're back beside me, till I'm holding you
till I hear you sigh here in my arms
Anywhere you wander, anywhere you go
in your heart believe what in my heart I now
that forevermore I'll wait for you
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
and then the time will come when all the waiting's done
the time when uou return and find me here and run
straight to my waiting arms
If it takes forever I will wait for you
for a thousand summers I will wait for you
till you're here beside me, till I'm touching you
and forevermore sharing our love
till you're here beside me, till I'm touching you
and forevermore I will wait for you
The lyrics of Nicki Parrott's song "I Will Wait For You" express a deep and unwavering dedication to a loved one. The singer of the song conveys a message of heartfelt loyalty, promising to always wait for their loved one to come back to them, no matter how long it takes. Through the repetition of the phrase "I will wait for you", the singer emphasizes their undying commitment to the person they love. The lyrics suggest that the singer will always believe in their love, and despite the physical distance between them, the love they share will always be present in their hearts.
The lyrics continue to explain that the singer will wait not just for a little while, but for "a thousand summers"- an indefinite period of time- to be with the one they love. "Anywhere you wander, anywhere you go," the singer proclaims, "in your heart believe what in my heart I know." This line suggests that the singer's dedication is not contingent on the other person's physical presence, but rather on their faith in the connection between them. The chorus repeats the sentiment of waiting for eternity, repeating its intention twice more.
These lyrics convey the beautiful and selfless sentiment of waiting for someone despite all the obstacles that may come their way. It is about holding onto the hope and love for that special someone, and being willing to wait for as long as it takes. Overall, this song carries a message of hope, dedication, and true love that stands the test of time.
