Edge Of Seventeen
Nicks Stevie Lyrics

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh ooh ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

And the days go by
Like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own
I begin again
Said to my friend, baby
Nothin' else mattered

He was no more than a baby then
Well he seemed broken hearted
Something within him
But the moment that I first laid
Eyes on him all alone
On the edge of seventeen

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Said ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

Well, I went today maybe I will go again
Tomorrow
Yeah, yeah
Well the music there, well it was hauntingly
Familiar
When I see you doing
What I tried to do for me
With the words from a poet
And a voice from a choir
And a melody nothing else mattered

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Said ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

The clouds never expect it
When it rains
But the sea changes colors
But the sea
Does not change
So with the slow, graceful flow
Of age
I went forth with an age old
Desire to please
On the edge of seventeen

Ooh

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

Well then suddenly
There was no one left standing
In the hall yeah, yeah
In a flood of tears
That no one really ever heard fall at all
Well, I went searchin' for an answer
Up the stairs and down the hall
Not to find an answer
Just to hear the call
Of a nightbird singing
Come away, come away

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

Well I hear you in the morning
And I hear you
At nightfall
Sometimes to be near you
Is to be unable to feel you
My love
I'm a few years older than you, my love

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song

Sounds like she's singing
Ooh baby, ooh, said ooh

Overall Meaning

The song "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks is an emotionally charged piece that reflects on the singer's past and her struggles with love, loss, and the passage of time. The opening verse compares the singer to a white-winged dove singing a haunting melody that repeats throughout the piece. The metaphor of the dove is often used to symbolize spiritual transformation or communication with the divine, and it seems to indicate that the singer's experiences have led her to a deeper understanding of herself and her place in the world.

The following verses describe the passing of time as a strand in the wind and the web that is the singer's life, and she reflects on the importance of friendship in the face of change and adversity. The tone of the lyrics shifts in the second half of the song, as Nicks reflects on the pain of losing someone and the feelings of loneliness and yearning that come with it. The imagery of a night bird singing "come away" suggests a desire for escape or release from the pain, but the repetition of the line "just like the white-winged dove" brings the song full circle, signaling a cycle of rebirth and renewal.

Overall, "Edge of Seventeen" is a deeply personal song that uses powerful metaphors and vivid imagery to convey the singer's emotional state. It remains one of Nicks' most acclaimed and beloved works, and its powerful message has resonated with countless listeners over the years.

This woman is nothing less than amazing. She's a machine. She's what 74 / 75. She's absolutely still as beautiful to day as she was back in The 70' s 80's etc. And then there's that voice that one of a kind voice. She sucks you in spins her spell and without realizing it you are hooked. Once hooked there's no way back. Her voice that voice is by far the most intoxicating drug I know that I've ever consumed. And believe me I've tasted a lot of them.

Finally there's here ability to work and relate to the crowd. Never is it forced nor is it over the top or powering.shes one of those people that the quiter she becomes the more subtle her gestures and movements become the more intoxicating the more your crave the more you fight for that taste the feeling you get when you see her live. I've seen her 5 times in three years . The best do far was late Nov. 2022 in Charlotte sold out png out side arena it was a Kool nite but it was really a magical show that nite. she and the band where on , the crowd was into it and on point the night was one of a kind, the type that's like one out of every one hundred shows. Unforgettable. So many of the ladies girls and women had come dress in the apparel and styles she wore through out her carrier. It added a get touch and feel to and for the show. It was a key part
The show was just one that was so Good me nor my wife would never forget that night. In fact my wife , and this was the first time she saw her, was actually in tears by the end of landslide because it had struck such a cord with her, in her that's all she could do.

Personally it's one of my all time most favorite shows if all time. It's that show as a regular concert goer you wait for ever to see and be part of. Magical
.

If you haven't seen her you have got no idea what you are missing and I would highly suggest you get off your butts. You spend the bucks and you go see her before she stops touring. As for me Stevie, I'll be there again time number six in 2024 probably the first of two times during the course of the year. I'll catch you on your way home and catching on the way back out again. I'll see you in Greensville, South Carolina in late February ready to jam. You lady are awesome a true Rock n roll legend.

Ps congrats on getting your own Barbie you more than deserve it
