Let Me Go

See I can still remember when
You said you were my only friend
Yeah Mr. Fear you captured me
I was blinded and couldn't see
That real love was bound to come
And confront what I was running from
(He) opened up my eyes and let me know
(CHORUS)
Let me go, oh let me go
Yeah let me go
Oh let me go, go
Time to time I must remind you
That we're not tight the way we used to
Before you tell me what you came for
Turn and walk out that door
Mr. Love now resides here
He's strong enough to cast out fear
And since I don't belong to you no more
Take your hand off my shoulder
(CHORUS)
In "Let Me Go" by Nicole C. Mullen, the lyrics deal with the internal struggle of fighting off fear and choosing love instead. The song opens with Mullen reminiscing about when she believed that fear was her only confidante, and how it had a hold on her. She realizes that she was unable to see real love at the time, but eventually it did appear and changed her perception. The lyrics go on to describe that Mr. Love has now taken the place of Mr. Fear in her life, and he is the one who has freed her from the chains that once bound her.
Mullen addresses Mr. Fear in the chorus, telling him to let her go, which signifies that she no longer wishes to be held captive by her fears. She reaffirms her position in the second verse by declaring that Mr. Love is now in control, and his presence has allowed her to resist the ways of her former captor. In essence, the song is about breaking free from the negative aspects of life, and embracing positive change.
Overall, "Let Me Go" is a song about transformation, and how the power of love is greater than the power of fear. It conveys the message that no matter how difficult it may seem, one can indeed triumph over insecurity and overcome their fears to live a life full of positivity and joy.
