Like something deep inside has died
Oh, the hurt, the guilt, the pain
To know I broke Your heart again
And like a hurricane that blows
A thunderstorm inside my soul
So can you speak unto the wind
Forgive me, I have sinned
I am guilty of the nails that pierced Your hands
Oh, I'm cryin' out, purify
Rid me of this guiltiness I feel inside
I'm beggin' please forgive me
I can't describe what's in my soul
I feel ashamed to let You know
Oh, the burden, oh, the weight
That I've carried from that day
But You were there, You saw it all
Every detail great and small
And yet You love me just the same
And You remind me that You came, Lord, You came to
Forgive me, I have sinned
I am guilty of the nails that pierced Your hands
Oh, I'm cryin' out, purify
Rid me of this barrenness I feel inside
I'm beggin' please
Create in me a clean heart
Renew my spirit too
Restore to me joy, real joy
Make me more like You, more like You, yeah
Forgive me, I have sinned
I am guilty of the nails that pierced Your hands
Oh, I'm cryin' out, purify
Rid me of this brokenness I feel inside
Oh, I'm beggin' please
Forgive me, I have sinned
I am guilty of the nails that pierced Your hands
I know I'm guilty, I'm guilty
But when I cry out, You purify
And heal me of this brokenness I feel inside
And faithfully Your hear my plea
You faithfully, You forgive me
Jesus, You forgive me
The first verse of Nicole C. Mullen's song Forgive Me delves deep into the pain and guilt the singer is feeling due to her actions that have broken God's heart. She likens her tears to the torrents of a waterfall and the weight of her emotions to the destruction of a hurricane. The lyrics reveal her desperation for God's help and a renewal of her spirit, asking God to speak unto the wind and renew her life once again.
In the chorus, she confesses her sins and accepts responsibility for the nails that pierced Jesus's hands, asking for forgiveness and purification from the guilt she feels. The second verse highlights how difficult it is for her to express the full extent of what she is feeling in her soul, but she finds strength in the knowledge that God was with her every step of the way, saw every detail, and still loves her unconditionally.
In the bridge, the singer prays for a clean heart, a renewed spirit, and real joy, asking to be made more like God. In the final part of the song, she acknowledges her guilt once again and cries out to God for His forgiveness and healing, recognizing His faithfulness to always hear her plea and forgive her.
