Lotta Love
Nicolette Larson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's gonna take a lotta love
To change the way things are
It's gonna take a lotta love
Or we won't get too far

So if you look in my direction
And we don't see eye to eye
My heart needs protection
And so do I

It's gonna take a lotta love
To get us through the night
It's gonna take a lotta love
To make this work out right

So if you are out there waiting
I hope you show up soon
You know I need relating not solitude

Gotta lotta love
Gotta lotta love

It's gonna take a lotta love
To change the way things are
It's gonna take a lotta love
Or we won't get too far

It's gonna take a lotta love

It's gonna take a lotta love
It's gonna take a lotta love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nicolette Larson's song Lotta Love are a message about the power of love to make positive changes in the world. The singer acknowledges that the problems facing us are not simple and that it will take a great deal of love to overcome them. She recognizes that change will not come easily and will require considerable effort, but insists that it is a necessary endeavor. The repetition of the phrase "It's gonna take a lotta love" is a reminder of the enormity of the task at hand, but also serves as a call to action and a plea for people to come together.

The lyrics also express a need for protection and understanding. The singer admits that differences may arise between people, but insists that protection is necessary for the heart and the self. The chorus is a message of hope and motivation; "It's gonna take a lotta love to get us through the night" is a metaphor for the darkness and difficulties people face, while the phrase "To make this work out right" affirms the belief that positive change is possible. The final stanza is a plea for companionship and togetherness, a request for a community to come together and work towards that positive change.

"Lotta Love" was written and recorded by Neil Young before Nicolette Larson's version was released as the lead single from her 1978 album 'Nicolette' 🎶

Man! What's up? I've been playing this song over and over again the last weeks, after losing track of it the last three decades; It came back in my life big time!
And now I see it uploaded everywhere and recommended to me all the time.
I guess it's gonna take a lot of love to get out of this duality thinking dominated, evil current times!
And it's gonna take a lot of love for me personally as well to watch all the sadness unfolding the coming years I feel.
Lots of love to y'all!

If you happen to be over 55, still alive, and with musical memory intact, very few songs will make you miss your teenage and young adult years like this song. RIP Nicolette. 💔
