Dancin' Shoes
Nigel Olsson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Too many long conversations
And no one is hearin a word
Just tryin to escape the frustrations
Till a song in the night can be heard

Put on your dancin shoes
Throw out those one-night blues
Heres one to love and to chance
For a spin on that wheel of romance

Too slow to unriddle your problems
Too lonely for someone to care
Long, lonely silence keeps haunting
Till the song in the night finds you there

Put on your dancin shoes

Throw out those one-night blues
And her...

Overall Meaning

The song "Dancin' Shoes" by Nigel Olsson talks about the struggle of feeling alone and unheard in life. The lyrics suggest that people are always having long conversations with each other but nobody seems to be listening to the words being said. It's as if they're trying to escape their frustrations and find some sort of relief. The song then takes a positive turn and suggests that when the night comes and a good song is played, everything else fades away. The lyrics encourage the listener to put on their dancing shoes and forget about everything else. It's a call to embrace the moment and just dance.

The song suggests that sometimes people can be too slow to solve their problems or too lonely to have someone to care for them. But, with music, everything seems to fall in place. The song becomes a means to bring comfort to those who feel lonely and unloved. The chorus, which is repeated throughout the song, to 'put on your dancing shoes' and 'throw out those one-night blues' implies that dancing can be therapeutic and a way to forget our problems. Dancing and music is a metaphor for love and romance. The song portrays love and romance as a wheel that keeps spinning, and sometimes you just have to take a chance.

I heard this song the other day while I was painting a chest.
I'm 62 and it was popular back in the day. I always loved it.
I haven't heard it in eons. Brought back some great memories.

My son and I were antique shopping this afternoon.
The music at the store was soft background music.
Then this song came on!!
It said to my 36 yr old son.."Oh my gosh, listen to this song, I heard it the other day when I was painting, it's a great song."
He was more into shopping than listening to the song, but I couldn't believe after going years without hearing it, that I heard it twice in a couple of weeks.
I don't remember the first few minutes, but I remember most of the song.

I just searched for it now here on YouTube. I have to admit, I'll be listening to it often from now on. Lol
Love it

My dad wrote this song.. Although I’m in my 20’s, I grew up listening to it at my dad’s concerts. It still gives me chills knowing that the great Nigel Olsen performed it!

Growing up in Indy, I've always preferred Carl's version. Great song!!

I just for the first time tonight heard the Faith Band version, which I didn't know existed! I like their version a lot more than Nigel's.

It's a shame that such great songs from the best music era of my life doesn't even get airplay anymore . Today's artists don't even compare to the creative talents I grew up hearing in the 70s and 80s .
