Ramona
Night Beds (Live At Ocean Way Studios) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come on Ramona
It's getting harder
Hidden and guarded
Why do you feel so alone?
Oh oh

Come on Ramona
Naked with nothing
But bringing me something
I know you feel so alone, alone

With a heart that always fails
My love's gone off all the rails
Like a ship without a sail
Sinking underneath the waves

Come on Ramona
Church bells are ringing
Everyone's singing
"Why do we feel so alone?"
Alone

Come on Ramona
Make it your mantra
Do what they taught ya
Take back a life that was stole
Oh no

With a heart that always fails
My love's gone off all the rails
Like a ship without a sail
Drowning underneath the waves

With a heart that always fails
My love's gone off all the rails
Like a ship without a sail
I know the planets have a way
To meet us back to fate and never
Never, and never
And never
And never
Sever

When you're gone all
the dreams in my darkness

are your choice
when they just finally start (x3)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Night Beds' "Ramona" describe a person, presumably named Ramona, who is guarded and feels alone. The chorus begs her to open up and take back control of her life. The imagery of being naked with nothing suggests vulnerability and the desire to be seen for who she truly is. The verse talks about the singer's own struggles with love and how it seems to sink underneath the waves.

The bridge suggests that despite the heart always failing and love going off the rails, there is still a way to find fate and never sever from it. The final line of the song is repeated several times, "when you're gone all the dreams in my darkness are your choice when they just finally start," indicating that Ramona has a profound impact on the singer and his emotions.

@introverted44

this song is so beautiful oh my goodnessssss ;(

@andyinoregon

Heavenly is certainly the word for this guitar arrangement. When they performed it live on Jimmy Fallon they had three electric guitars and a fourth guy on lap steel. Gorgeous from beginning to end. Look for this song to get a Grammy nomination next year or there is no God.
