Fire With Fire
Night Terrors of 1927 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I, I did't believe it when
My enemy had quit before bloodshed
I, I fight till the bitter end
And I didn't see it when you gave in

But I've been up nights talking to my god
Can't see the plan he's got
Or what the hell he wants

And I'm so tired
My gloves have come off
All my bets are off
All my hopes are lost

Back and forth, wire to wire
We're always fighting fire with fire
Battle scarred, torn apart
We're always fighting fire with fire

You, you the stronger one
I didn't belong with someone so true bruised,
The battle it rages on
And I am afraid of what we might do
But I've been up nights making you my God
I finally see you're not,
Not the one to blame

And we're so tired,
Our gloves have come off
So let's sit back and watch us all go up in flames
We'll never put it out
Too proud to back down

We're going down in flames
With both of us blame

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Night Terrors of 1927's song Fire With Fire speak of an intense and futile battle between two people who are so alike that they are only able to fight each other. The song explores the idea of fighting fire with fire, trying to overcome someone through retaliation and vengeance, only to end up with both parties being burnt in the process. The singer expresses their frustration and exhaustion from the never-ending battle, and even questions the plan that God may have for them.

The first verse of the song speaks of the singer's disbelief when their enemy quits before bloodshed, indicating that the singer is used to a certain level of intensity and mistrust in their relationships. The singer asserts that they'll fight until the bitter end, but are blind to the other party giving up. The chorus of the song talks about the two parties fighting unwaveringly, leaving each other battle-scarred and torn apart. The line "we're always fighting fire with fire," reinforces the idea of retaliation and aggression. The final verse sees the singer acknowledging that they've been talking to God about the situation, but still don't have clarity about their plan or purpose. The singer also admits their exhaustion from the fight, but ultimately resigns to the fact that they'll be going down in flames along with the other person.

I don't remember how I found this song, and I don't know why more people don't know about it. But I always return to it and it's always on my mind. I love this song so, so much.

This is great music, a gem in the corporate produced rap nonesense. Please keep making music. I heard this song on a Barnes and Noble store playlist and came.

Love it...❤️

This was teh first non-rap song I heard on the PA system at the mall since 2000. It woke me out of my stupor of blocking out the commerical, Hollywood, insulting revenge noise being marketed since I was a boy.
