Vantablack
Night Verses Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Floating past the planet where I've grown
Stirring all the emptiness I know
Vanishing light in a cosmic hold
Everything's so perfect all alone

I, I was, I was so lost but now
My emotions swim
Hollow never felt so proud
I was so lost but now, now, now…

Voyager reflecting in the stars
Shadowing imaginary means
All this space is worth it when you're cold
Everything's so perfect all alone

I, I was, I was so lost but now
My emotions swim
Hollow never felt so proud
I was, I was so lost but now…
Hollow never felt so proud
My emotions swim
Hollow never felt so proud, I...

Oh
Oh

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Night Verses's song Vantablack suggest a sense of detachment from the world around them. As the singer floats past the planet where they've grown, everything is perfect when they're alone. This feeling of emptiness is reinforced by the imagery of vanishing light in a cosmic hold, evoking a sense of being lost in the vastness of space.

The chorus begins with the repetition of the line "I was so lost but now" which suggests a turning point in the singer's emotional journey. They describe their emotions as swimming, which can be interpreted as a sense of being overwhelmed, but also a sense of freedom and release. The final lines of the chorus, "Hollow never felt so proud" suggest that the singer has come to accept their detachment and perhaps even find a sense of pride in it.

The second verse introduces the idea of the Voyager spacecraft reflecting in the stars, bringing to mind the idea of exploration and discovery. The phrase "shadowing imaginary means" suggests that the journey is not always clear or straightforward, but it is worth it even when it's cold. This line could also be interpreted as a metaphor for the challenges of personal growth and the importance of persevering through difficult times.

Overall, Vantablack portrays a sense of detachment and emptiness, but also suggests that this can be a powerful and transformative experience. The repetition of the chorus lines underscores the idea that the singer has undergone a significant emotional shift, and the final lines of the song serve as a reminder that there is beauty and meaning to be found in the vastness of the universe.

Revisiting this album, I always knew it was weird on intention, and after 2 years some of the songs sound like nails on a chalkboard to me... but this one sounds just about as good the first time I heard it.

MeowTheRainbowX

I love how surreal this is. The ambient noises in the background give the song a nice touch.

The first Nightverses EP came out my freshman year. The second album came out 2013. This album came out about a month after I graduated. Luckily I had Deftones to fall back on. I wish they made this album and released it a year earlier.
