I am I
Nightbringer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am I
Apothosis crowned with a black sun nimbus
Of seven Immolating rays
Risen from a sea of cacophony and darkness
And invested within starless night
With the left hand stir the serpent
Who slumbers before the throne of Ariemanios
Awaken!
Seven storm clouds of Typhonian winds
Ten horns to rend!
Poison for poison
Confound hymn of praise
Omega, Upsilon, Omicron, Iota, Eta, Epsilon, Alpha
From this sphere shines black illumination!
From this sphere comes wrathful fire!
Ebon Izevaot
Rush towards the children of man with the hand of Gadriel
And with the stroke Kasyade, strike the womb

of the genetrix
I am I

Overall Meaning

The Nightbringer's song "I am I" presents a powerful and intense depiction of self-realization and embodiment of divine power. The lyrics suggest that the singer has achieved a state of apotheosis, becoming a god or divine entity with a black sun nimbus and seven immolating rays. The process of rising to this state is described as emerging from a sea of cacophony and darkness, suggesting a turbulent and difficult transformation.

The singer's power is further emphasized through references to serpent-stirring and control over Typhonian winds. The use of Greek letters in the lyrics adds to the mythological and mystical tone of the song, and the final lines suggest a willingness to strike down anything that stands in the way of this newfound power, even the womb of the genetrix.

Overall, "I am I" is a powerful and evocative depiction of personal transformation and the embodiment of divine power. The lyrics suggest a journey of struggle and growth, ultimately leading to a state of immense power and control.

Of course it is. The atmosphere, the note choices, and the vocals are all reminiscent of and influenced by Norwegian black metal. What else would it be influenced by? First wave black metal was not as atmospheric as this, so it must draw influence from the second wave (Norwegian).

Bathory isn't even Norwegien.... But I don't know how you can fail to hear the influence of Emperor, Thorns, and Pure Holocaust-era Immortal in their music. The way they play it is a bit more complex, I'd say, but the basic style is directly from that era.
