Used Me Like A Drug
Nighthowls Lyrics

I got reasons that I don't want you around
Cause I don't like the way you loved me
and you left me fending for myself
I can tell by the way you say
that you think that I'd be better on my own
Don't gotta tell me twice
Oh I know you used me like a drugUsed me like a drug
Used me like a drug
I can tell by the way you move
I can tell by the way you speak that you see through me
Didn't think that I'd call
Didn't think cheating would be this easy
Now I'm staring at the bedroom wall
In the place we would share it all
Now it's a fake out
It's a shame that you let me down
I know you used me like a drug
I know you used me like a drug
In "Used Me Like A Drug" by Nighthowls, the opening lines convey a strong sense of disillusionment and personal strength as the singer declares they've had enough of the toxic relationship. The phrase "I got reasons that I don't want you around" reveals that the relationship has caused significant emotional harm, leading the singer to recognize a need for self-preservation. The lyrics reflect a realization that the love they received was manipulative and self-serving, where the other person’s affection was fleeting and not genuine. The choice to leave is framed not just as a desire but as a necessity for emotional well-being, which is evident in the rejection of the way love was given. This sense of clarity empowers the singer, signaling a turning point where they refuse to accept the toxicity that once consumed them.
The repeated assertion of being "used like a drug" captures the addictive nature of the toxic relationship, suggesting a cycle of highs and lows that left the singer feeling both euphoric and deeply vulnerable. When the singer acknowledges that they "can tell by the way you say" certain things, it indicates an understanding that the partner might believe they are better off alone, which elevates the feelings of betrayal. This acknowledgment enhances the emotional weight of the lyrics, as it suggests a disparity between the two sides of the relationship—while one sees a path to liberation, the other is left grappling with heartbreak and disappointment. The pain of reliance on someone else for emotional fulfillment is palpable, as the singer recognizes they were treated as a means to an end, rather than as a partner in a loving relationship.
As the singer reflects on the aftermath of the separation, they express a deep sense of betrayal and loss, visualizing their solitude symbolized by “staring at the bedroom wall.” This imagery emphasizes a stark contrast between the intimate moments shared and the current loneliness they feel in its absence. The juxtaposition of memories against the harsh reality highlights the emptiness that follows the end of a relationship that once seemed fulfilling. The idea of a “fake out” further emphasizes how the love initially portrayed was ultimately insincere, and how the emotional connection has turned into just an illusion, leading to profound disappointment. The wall, once a backdrop for shared experiences, now becomes a reminder of what has been lost, amplifying the sense of betrayal the singer feels.
Ultimately, the lyrics communicate a powerful message about self-awareness and the importance of breaking free from unhealthy attachments. The repeated refrain of being "used like a drug" serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of dependency in romantic relationships. As they course through their emotions, the singer acknowledges both their pain and strength, signaling a resolve to reclaim their identity beyond the relationship. This journey is one of liberation, where recognizing the manipulative dynamics allows for healing and growth. In essence, the song acts as an anthem for those who have experienced similar relationships, encouraging listeners to value themselves and realize their worth outside of toxic love.

Fluke, this is amazing! I really believe that you can make it in the music industry or anything you put your mind to. The lyrics are written so nicely and tell a story, and your voice, omg it’s amazing! Just amazing. Whoever mixed it did a great job, instrumentally was just epic and catchy! I really would love to have the opportunity to see you perform this live. This just got added to a bunch of my playlists. I’m a closeted furry but I’m blasting this in the car with friends no shame, idc if this is what outs me.
Edit: my only complaint now is that my hand hurts from hitting the replay button, I need an extended version 😆

BRUH…I’ve been watching your videos since almost the very beginning and you’re so freaking multi-talented it’s unbelievable! The comparison you made to Troye Sivan was spot on (a collab between you two would sound amazing tbh). That chorus is already stuck in my head.
Only thing I’d say is I’d love it even more if the song were longer, like maybe a bridge + extra chorus at the end but other than that it’s great and your voice sounds as good as always. Can’t wait to hear the full album on January 25th!!
