The lyrics of "HATE" by Nightmare depict the singer's struggle with their own weakness and vulnerability. The opening lines describe a dark city filled with polluted breaths, where even the last thread of hope has been silenced. The singer is haunted by their lover's words, which seem to dissolve and blur like a distorted pattern. The word "dirty" means nothing to them, as they are too numb to feel any pain. The only thing they want is to gain strength to take what they want, just like a villain from a manga. However, they are walking on a thorny path, unable to reveal their true emotions.
The chorus shows the singer's inner turmoil, as they wonder why they cannot scream out for love. They listen to the sound of their own weak voice, feeling inferior to everyone else. They are trapped in a cycle of repeating their mistakes, unable to break free. The second verse tells us that the singer cannot confide in anyone, nor show them their true face. They are alone in their final moments, crying in the dark. However, they still hold a small amount of hope, wondering if they will ever be able to blossom like a lovely flower.

*sigh* Ah, the memories. This was my first favorite song by Nightmare. I remember when neither Death Note nor this band were very popular. It makes me happy that they're gaining fame now that the anime has been introduced to the U.S.
