Though I know I’m better off without you
I never break down any longer
I don’t know why I can’t move on
I really need, I really want you to
Refrein:
Bring me down!
Come around for old times sake
I need a sweet taste of bitter, bring me down
I’m looking back, I see I wasn’t happy
To do, do it again, yeah that would be crazy
It’s so uncommon quiet without you
Got to admit that I long for you
I really need, I really want you to
Refrein
Bring me down!
Yeah I miss that mess you make
Come around for old times sake
I need a sweet taste of bitter, Yeah
You’re the river I’ll be drowning in some day
I take my chances anyway
Refrein 3x
Bring me down
Yeah I miss that mess you make
Come around for old times sake
I need a sweet taste of bitter, bring me down
In Nikki's song "Bring Me Down," the lyrics reveal conflicting emotions and desires towards a past relationship. The singer acknowledges that they are better off without their ex-partner, but also admits to thinking about them and longing for them. The line "I never break down any longer / I don’t know why I can’t move on" implies that the singer has worked hard to move on from this relationship, but struggles to fully let go.
The chorus, "Bring me down! / Yeah I miss that mess you make / Come around for old times sake / I need a sweet taste of bitter, bring me down" captures the chaotic and addictive nature of this relationship. Despite the pain and heartache it caused, the singer craves the intense emotions and excitement that came with being with their ex. The image of the singer drowning in the river is a metaphor for the potentially destructive nature of this relationship, yet the singer still chooses to take their chances and entertain the idea of rekindling it.
Overall, "Bring Me Down" captures the complexity of emotions that come with moving on from a past relationship. Despite acknowledging that the relationship was not good for them, the singer still struggles to fully let go and move forward. The lyrics are both vulnerable and empowering, recognizing the messy and unpredictable nature of human relationships.
