The sacred line from you to me
In our own minds we touch the sky
Our everyday lives we're keepers of time
We can come down, I'll take you to mine
Take you in to the devine
Will you dive in and save me?
Dive in and take me out of the crowd in my head
And when I'm really dead I'll be your bed
You can rest your head on me
Funny times to be
Stigmata world (wave) bleed
But with our own hands we'll touch the sky
There's every chance your dream horse will ride
We can come down, I'll take you to mine
Take you in to the devine
Dive in love, dive in with love
The lyrics to Nina Hynes's song "Dive In" speak to the various ways in which two people can connect with each other, beyond just words. The "sacred line" between two people suggests a spiritual or emotional connection that transcends physical distance, and allows us to touch the sky in our own minds. However, in our everyday lives, we are "keepers of time," indicating that even though we might have these deeper connections with others, we still must contend with the passage of time and the demands of the material world.
The song's chorus speaks to the idea of support and rescue, with the singer asking if their partner will "dive in and save me" when they are drowning. This can be interpreted both literally and metaphorically, as both a plea for physical help and emotional support. The image of being "out of the crowd in my head" suggests that the singer might feel overwhelmed or alone in their own thoughts, but that their partner can provide a sense of safety and comfort.
The bridge of the song continues with the theme of connection, suggesting that even in a world that often feels marked by pain and disconnection ("stigmata world bleed"), there is still hope. The idea that "with our own hands we'll touch the sky" emphasizes the power we have to create meaningful connections with each other, and that even in difficult times, we can still find a way to ride our dream horses and pursue our hopes and desires.
