The band broke up after the release of their third full-length Shorthand Operation. According to vocalist Jeff Suffering at the time, the album "quite possibly could be the best record I'll ever record." Explaining their breakup, Suffering said "we had a rough tour and nobody wanted to continue playing in 'Christian' music industry."
After breaking up, Suffering and guitarist John Spalding went on to form Raft of Dead Monkeys with label mate members of Roadside Monument. Suffering later went on to form the still-active Suffering & the Hideous Thieves. He also contributes to Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Short Hand Operation
Ninety Pound Wuss Lyrics

My body lays exposed on the operating table.
One blind eye pulled from the stems.
The other frantically recalls memories like news broadcasts from an a.m. radio station.
Realizing just what I've become.
I turn to cherish the moment of forgiveness.
My second skin being removed so slowly.
The moments like hours.
Grinding through see-saw stardust.
Pixel vision naturally shapeless.
I endure this captivity.
My regret so colorless and futile.
My hands lay severed beside me.
Dull, pale, scratching at the floor.
These thoughts once pondered my own self destruction.
I remember devouring all that was left of your wounded heart.
I was never the person you thought I was.
I was never the person I thought I was.
I'm without, I'm nothing now.
The truth has been seen through incision.
Mind intercourse, thought correction.
It always comes back to sin and catastrophe.
Desire welling up inside.
Passions arise.
Rekindled memories.
Affections so bliss.
Forgotten pristine candy.
Red shake and shiver.
Objection dead.
Skin crawling.
Chaotic conversion.
Switchstance.
Whitewash my face to gleam again.
The song "Short Hand Operation" by Ninety Pound Wuss is a poignant and introspective exploration of personal transformation and redemption. The lyrics depict the singer's experience of undergoing a literal and figurative surgical procedure, and the insights and challenges this process evokes.
The opening lines describe the singer lying on an operating table, with one of their eyes removed and the other frantically recalling memories. This vivid image sets the tone for the rest of the song, which deals with themes of self-examination and the search for meaning. The singer reflects on their past mistakes and regrets, but also reaches for a moment of forgiveness and redemption.
The song's lyrics also touch on the fragility of identity and the complexity of human nature. The singer acknowledges that they were not the person others thought they were, nor were they the person they themselves believed they were. Instead, they are left with a sense of emptiness and a desire for transformation.
Overall, "Short Hand Operation" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences of personal growth and transformation.

My older brother had this cd. I think I was 12 when it came out. It changed my life. Between this and Roadside Monument and Blenderhead I don’t think I’d be the person I am today. Easily the three best bands Tooth and Nail ever produced. Still have a soft spot for Joe Christmas though too. And Damien Jurado and Pedro the Lion

Thanks for sharing! Love hearing stories like these. Absolutely love Roadside Monument, Pedro the Lion and Frodus myself. Can't remember exactly how I got into that stuff but I've always loved the Tooth and Nail bands, so much good music there.
