Born in Turin, Rosso's parents had attempted to send him to university, but at 19 he chose the trumpet over academia, and left home. After his employment in a nightclub was terminated by the police, he returned home, but soon after departed again to relaunch his career. He soon became one of the best-known jazz trumpeters in Italy, reaching the crest of his popularity in the 1960s. He became known in the UK in 1962 when his recording of "Concerto Disperato" was covered by Ken Thorne and his Orchestra and became a hit under the title "The Theme from 'The Legion's Last Patrol'". Rosso's original was quickly released on the little-known Durium label and also made the charts, but was less successful than the bland cover version. His 1965 worldwide hit "Il Silenzio" went to #1 in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and sold over ten million copies. He also acted in the 1960s.
Rosso died of a tumor in 1994.

Artist: Nini Rosso
Buona notte, amore!
Ti vedro nei miei sogni.
Buona notte a te, che sei lontana.
auf Deutsch:
Ich werde Dich in meinen Träumen sehen
Gute Nacht Dir, wo Du so weit weg bist
The Italian song "Il Silenzio" (The Silence) by Nini Rosso is a beautiful and emotional ballad that expresses the longing for a loved one who is far away. The lyrics start with the words "Buona notte, amore!" which means "Good night, my love!" conveying a sense of tenderness and affection. The singer then adds "Ti vedro nei miei sogni" which translates to "I will see you in my dreams" indicating that the separation is only physical and that their love will continue to exist in their dreams. The repetition of the phrase "Buona notte a te, che sei lontana" emphasizes the distance between them and how it is hard for the singer to say good night without being able to hold their loved one close.
The lyrics to "Il Silenzio" are not complicated but the melody and the feelings they convey make for a very powerful and moving composition. Listening to the song can evoke a sense of sadness and hopefulness at the same time, which is one of the reasons it has become an enduring classic. The use of the trumpet as the main instrument gives the song a sense of melancholia, but also of tenderness.

Come night, come the quiet night and let the stillness ring,
for tomorrow...
Come sleep, but I know there will be none,
come dreams, yes, dreams.
Come dreams of us and what we were and where we were and how we were,
for tomorrow...
Sing the trumpet, its sad song, let if fill every corner
let it fill my heart with peace.
Sing the night, covering all, holding tight, the moment,
this moment before tomorrow, comes.
