The lyrics to Nip Drivers’s “Fox on the Run” are about a girl who has changed her appearance and personality, and the singer wants nothing to do with her anymore. He doesn’t even want to know her name because she doesn’t look the same as she did before. The singer criticizes the girl for thinking she has a pretty face when the rest of her is out of place. He has also heard all of the band names she drops before and finds them to be second hand. The repeated phrase “Fox on the Run” is a warning that she needs to hide herself away, as everybody comes running for the chance to be with her.
In this song, the singer represents a group of people who are unimpressed with someone who changes themselves to fit in, claiming that they prefer them for who they really are. They find individuals who try too hard to be cool unappealing and off-putting. Even though the singer used to find the girl attractive, he now sees through her façade and wants nothing to do with her. It is unclear whether the girl in the song is an actual person or a representation of a larger issue with society.
