Blandest
Nirvana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oooooooh ...

You're my favorite,
Of my saviours
You're my favorite,
Who knows (Alt: Oh, no)
You're my favorite,
Of my favors
You're my razor,
Oh no (Alt: Who knows)

Hey!

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become
Calm (Alt: Come)

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become
Calm (x4) (Alt: Come)

You're my favorite,
Of my saviours
You're my favorite,
Who knows (Alt: Oh, no)

You're my favorite,
Of my favors
You're my razor,
Oh no (Alt: Who knows)

Hey!

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become

Calm (Alt: Come)

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become
Calm (x4) (Alt: Come)

Ah ... Ahhh!

You're my favorite,
Of my saviours
You're my favorite,
Who knows (Alt: Oh, no)
Yes you're my favorite,
Of my favors
You're my razor,
Oh no (Alt: Who knows)

Hey!

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become
Calm (Alt: Come)

And the situation wasn't quite
As intense as I thought

I need you around,
To remind me what not to become
Calm (x4) (Alt: Come)

Ahhhhhh!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nirvana's song Blandest appear to be inspired by a personal connection or relationship that Kurt Cobain had, possibly with someone who saved him from self-destruction. In the first verse, the words "You're my favorite of my saviors/You're my favorite, who knows" suggest that this person is significant to Cobain, but their importance may not be clear to others. The lines "You're my favorite of my favors/You're my razor, oh no" might be interpreted as a nod to his self-destructive tendencies, with the "razor" being a metaphor for his own damaging behavior.

The chorus of the song repeats the lines "And the situation wasn't quite as intense as I thought/I need you around to remind me what not to become," emphasizing the importance of this person in Cobain's life as a stabilizing force. The final verse repeats the opening verse, solidifying the idea that this person is essential to Cobain's well-being.

Overall, the lyrics of Blandest portray a complex and deeply personal relationship in which the singer relies on another person to keep themselves from self-destruction.

I love Late 80s Nirvana. Bleach album,some tracks from Incesticide and these demos are just amazing. Kurt was really creative in this era and there wasn’t any formula for his songwriting yet. You can understand he had so many different ideas and he wasn’t afraid to come up with them. And the raw studio takes without studio polishing make these songs way better

@richardroberts957

Tbf I wouldn't call in utero polished either.

@marktaylor23

I hear a lot of Melvins influence in this period, not a bad thing. And do love his more experimental non pop creations. I love it all though

@unicajamalaga2

Да да .. а то у нас получается говоришь Нирвана подразумеваешь nevermind 🤷

@davidboguzes9576

how does Kurt sing and play these guitar parts at the same time? It's a pretty simple guitar part...but trying to sing over it is very hard. He had a very unique sense of melody. He's also an underrated guitarist...he wrote some awesome riffs.

@ldzg9247

fuck yeah dude

@timbaker4291

+David Boguzes Listen to money roll right in live....I mean the verse is literally 4 notes and most of the riff is an open E string....still I can't seem to sing over it whilst playing i can can sing and play quite a lot of songs! It's almost as if simple riffs are the hardest to sing over.

@davidboguzes9576

Tim Baker I agree but Kurt had such a bizzare way of putting melodies together.  I mean listen to Smells Like Teen Spirt....the guitar riff is so freaking simple...and kinda boring...but then Cobain came in with a melody that literally will live forever.  I still cant even imagine how much great music we lost when Kurt left us.  It still hurts....

@davidboguzes9576

School is another one....such an awesome riff...all on the E string.  Try singing that one....freaking hard.

@soisyourface1234

under rated? its all powerchords. i love nirvana but underrated certainly not true. overrated definetly. kurt isnt slash the simple notes are apart of his style stupid.
