Lounge Act
Nirvana Lyrics
Truth covered in security
I can't let you smother me
I'd like to but it couldn't work
Trading off and taking turns
I don't regret a thing
I've got this friend, you see
Who makes me feel
And I wanted more
Than I could steal
And wear a shield
I'll go out of my way
To prove I still
Smell her on you
Don't, tell me what I wanna hear
Afraid of never knowning fear
Experience anything you need
I'll keep fighting jealousy
Until it's fucking gone
I've got this friend, you see
Who makes me feel
And I wanted more
Than I could steal
I'll arrest myself
And wear a shield
I'll go out of my way
To prove I still
Smell her on you
Truth covered in security
I can't let you smother me
I'd like to but it wouldn't work
Trading off and taking turns
I don't regret a thing
I've got this friend, you see
Who makes me feel
And I wanted more
Than I could steal
I'll arrest myself
And wear a shield
I'll go out of my way
To make you a deal
We've make a pact
To learn from who
Ever we want
Without new rules
We'll share what's lost and what we grew
They'll go out of their way
To prove they still
Smell her on you
They still, smell her on you
Smell her on you

So called because the band thought the guitar riff sounded like something a cheesy hotel bar band might play. The lyrics concern Cobain's ex Tobi Vail from Bikini Kill, with lines like "I still smell her on you", making it a clear footnote to "...Teen Spirit".
Cobain later wrote an unsettling letter to Vail which read "I don't write songs about you except Lounge Act, which I do not play except when my wife is not around."

@Livi Curtis Just remember…

So will The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Radiohead, Neil Young, The Band, Big Star, Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, Van Morrison, The Verve, Miles Davis, Neutral Milk Hotel, Elvis Presley, Bill Withers, Nick Cave, Otis Redding, Nina Simone, Fiona Apple, Curtis Mayfield, Bruce Springsteen, Nick Drake, Velvet Underground, MF DOOM, U2, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Zeppelin, Frank Ocean, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, John Coltrane, Roy Orbison, Bob Marley, Bjork, Charles Mingus, Can, Aretha Franklin, My Bloody Valentine, Jimi Hendrix, Pixies, Kendrick Lamar, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Oasis, Portishead, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Brian Eno, Pj Harvey, Talk Talk, Modest Mouse, TV On The Radio, Animal Collective, Randy Newman, Al Green, Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Alice Coltrane, Elvis Costello, The Clash, Tim Buckley…
And a couple others.
They’re always there.
We don’t really have “bad days”; We have a few bad moments; But, those are just a small fee we get to pay, to be able to spend our entire lives with the people I named.
The Universe is an eternity of unfathomable beauty that goes on forever, but we forget all about that—whenever we have the slightest inconvenience.

Such an amazing album. Some people think it’s overrated and cliche but this album reminds me of summer and makes me reminisce about HighSchool. Rest In Peace Kurt!

It has sure started a cliche wave, but itself it is an innovation

It's all about me though! 🌑
Sewer Water
its objectively wrong to claim this album is "overrated", its literally one of the best records ever made in music history regardless of how some people might feel about it.
jane eyre

@Musica Catastale you are high, lol. The Doors bass line is pretty straightforward latin jazz influenced comping of the chord changes. The line Krist wrote here weaves around and is memorable in its own right as a riff that helps define the song. Maybe he was influenced a little by the Doors and a whole bunch of other groups, but you need to look up the definition and how to spell 'literally'. Similarities don't equal copying, otherwise all of music would be one big lawsuit.

Helluva bass player ❄
