Out of nirvanas entire catalog, this is probably my number one favorite song. I purchased incestiside before any other album as a teenager and I gave it the first listen on the bus on my way to high school for the first day in my Sony discman. It was like a light bulb went off and it triggered my love for nirvana and all the other artists I enjoy. Brings me back to that exact moment in time every time I listen.

As a teenager I was a huge, huge, huge fan of Nirvana and I had played Nevermind so often on my casetteplayer-stereo that even my parents new all the songs by heart. When Incesticide came out, I walked from my hometown to Reykjavík (captial of Iceland) that had a record store where I could buy the CD (2 hours walk one way). When I came back, I started listening, but unfortunetly I had a stomach flu that just came to light about when I re-entered my home (maybe food poisioning from some street food in Reykjavík, I don't know)... and I threw up the very first time I heard the album... right on when Kirt was singin "down in me" on Dive. The riff and base-line were not good for an upset stomach... Nevertheless Dive is among my very favorite Nirvana songs

He was one of the greatest lyricst ever, so much of what he is actually singing is hidden and not what the official lyrics say, like the album tago mago by CAN. But he took it too the next level. Is he saying here, dive/die/doubted me, i think this form of writing is so smart and nobody sings like this these days. My favourite line is in dumb, skin the sun, fall asleep, wish away soul is cheap (soulless sheep) and ofcourse something in the way - is he singing about love or is he in distress.

Dude im in a place in my life, right now. Where i am revisiting all of my youths biggest inspirations, which has caused me to write lyrics, and play the bass, to this day.
I love Seattle grunge, and Nirvanas Bleach & Incestecide was the first i ever heard of it.
Even in his youth, School, Blew and dive, are alle really "simple" songs, lyrics & instrumental wise, though it has a much deeper meaning and affect on people, than anything else, ever has!

@@zimonslot I think he was a pretty good example for beginners to get into guitar and even as far as today some of there songs are fun to play regardless of technical value

@@someone7068 true. He was a bad example in that he was lazy and limited as a guitar player. It is a complicated instrument and requires some effort to play it, but I think he wanted to put the least amount of effort possible into it. Ofcourse you could say he didnt need more technical skills then he had, since he was very succesfull, but then to be as succesful you also need a voice and songwriting skills like his.

@@zimonslot true in that he wasn't technical and if he was only a guitarist he wouldn't have gotten so far or be remembered as well,however I think his reasoning for not wanting to is quite a great way to live by due to him preferring to write songs that can connect with people as opposed to being a technical master where he would up his standards too much and would be harder to impress himself if he ever did try to get great at guitar technically and I'd tend to agree it's like when I play guitar along to any song I play through what I know and enjoy digesting the song in that way even making mistakes through it instead of try hard to work through one section for sense of perfection

i never realized how cool the beginning is with the guitar coming in squealing, I dont know how people get the squeal at the perfect time and this was before pro tools so they had to get it live perfect.

When I was 17 I was semi pro skater in this album really woke me up and I started skating again even though they told me a technically had a broken back my vertebrae was cracked but I kept skating and mountain biking and I didn't give up to all of you out there hopefully that will help somebody out there😊❤🤙

Love Nirvana after I got a chance 2 hear more than Nervermind. The funny thing is after you go through all the great lyrics and deepness. For me I found he just kicks ass and it's not all about that. It's the ability 2 take something basic and do amazing with it that really makes me understand his depth.

I believe these recordings were all made in few takes and I listened to an interview with the producer who was mixing these songs in about an hour or something. Certainly these songs were made in 1 day I believe. Just incredible.

@@mattthompson9395 Yeah I know. You can hear they sound different. Some perhaps not as good as others, but as far as I'm concerned, most of them sound fantastic. I just can not believe this was done so quick. I would assume the band was key to it. They really practiced a lot. Like Kurt was actually a really hard worker and it shows....

The cover art is in my opinion depicts a heroin addict being pulled by the addiction to the poppy flowers. The milk of the flowers are the main ingredient of the drug.

I was just reading how in the early van days krist said chad had a cassette with celtic frost on one side and the smithereens on the other. I feel like this song is the perfect blend of both. Loose jangly guitars yet extremely heavy. a blood and roses type beat. kurts melodic swinging deep tone vocals mixed with screaming. they weren't the beatles mixed with black sabbath.. they were celtic frost mixed with the smithereens haha!
