After relocating to Hamburg in 2003, Nneka has been working closely with the hip hop beatmaker DJ Farhot. As a young singer she first gained public attention in 2004 while performing as an opening act for dancehall reggae star Sean Paul at Hamburg Stadtpark. After much acclaim, Nneka released her debut EP The Uncomfortable Truth with the music label Yo Mama's Recording Company after which she performed on her first tour with Patrice, playing shows in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
She finished recording her first album in the autumn of 2005. Entitled Victim of Truth. Garnering rave reviews from the media, the UK's Sunday Times later declared it “the year’s most criminally overlooked album”, comparing it favourably to 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'.
In February 2008, she released her second album, No Longer at Ease. The title of the album is taken from a novel of the same name by Chinua Achebe and reflects the lyrical content of the record. Most of the songs are political, talking about the plight of the Niger Delta and the corruption in Nneka’s homeland. “No Longer at Ease” combines the political and the personal in “a winning mix of soul, hip-hop an reggae”. The lead single from it, "Heartbeat", became her first song to break into the German Top 50.
In November 2009, Nneka staged her first concert tour of the United States where she performed shows in New York City, Vienna (Washington DC), Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Furthermore she was a special guest on The Roots Jam session. Her first US release Concrete Jungle was set for 2 February 2010.
Nneka recorded her last album Soul Is Heavy in Nigeria. She also co-founded a charity foundation called the "ROPE foundation" with Genda, Ahmed Nyei from Sierra Leone. She has worked extensively in charity and arts with the foundation in Sierra Leone. Nneka has also worked with Reebok and her track "Shinning" topped global charts in 2013.
Do You Love Me Now

Did you speak truth, when you dug wounds
When you spilled blood, did you say love
When you promised the most high
You will not betray
Do you love me now
Absentminded on the earth devoted to sin
Not knowing I'm dead
Your phrases are highly majestic
I am amazed by your great linguistics
Yet your words are placed together
To sell dubious manifestos
The end is devastating, barrage of lies
Your words are sweet enticing but false grandeur
Still I go, I go to the foutain where waters flow
Where the truth uprises there I will grow now
Do you love me
I will grow
I know I have never been found
It is dark for we are all blind
In solitude we know God
In public we do not act God
Is it destiny is it mean to be
Do you love me now
Now that everything has been said and done
Do you love me, now that I function in your madness
Do you love me now, for your love is so cold
Oh sodom and gomorrah caution
Do you love me, now that I am no longer me
The song "Do You Love Me Now" by Nneka, is a powerful and emotional song about betrayal and the search for truth. The lyrics are a plea to someone who has betrayed the singer, asking if they truly love her and if they were truthful in their promises. The song begins with the singer asking if the person who spoke her name called her with love or with the intention to hurt her. The following lines suggest that the person was not truthful and may have even caused harm with their words. The singer questions if the person truly loves her despite their actions.
The second verse expresses frustration and confusion at the world's sinful nature. The singer questions their own existence and how they navigate a world full of lies and manipulation. They speak of being amazed by the great linguistics of others but ultimately feeling deceived by false promises. They then state their desire to seek out the truth and grow in it.
The chorus, "Do you love me now", is repeated throughout the song with increasing intensity. It is a plea for the person who betrayed the singer to show love despite their actions. The final line, "now that I am no longer me", suggests that the betrayal has changed the singer and they may not recognize themselves anymore.
Overall, "Do You Love Me Now" is a powerful and emotional song about betrayal and the search for truth. It speaks to the human desire for love and honesty, even in the face of difficult circumstances.
