Teen Creeps
No Age Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wash away what we create
My sins like funny calls you make
Teen creeps I've seen you on my street
Teen creeps get what they want and me
I won't end up like them at all
This town will take you kissing trees
Before you see the forest bleed
Teen creeps I've tried to hold it back

So let me leave your welcome mat
I won't end up like them at all
Wash away what we create
I hate you more I hate this place

I know why I feel this way
Teen creeps please don't leave me dead, dead this way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to No Age’s song “Teen Creeps” are about the anxieties that come with growing up and the fear of becoming someone you do not want to be. The first two lines, “Wash away what we create, My sins like funny calls you make” speak to the idea of trying to rid oneself of past mistakes, but they still linger and haunt us like weird voicemails. The “Teen creeps” seem to represent the reckless and wild part of oneself that we are afraid of becoming. The line “This town will take you kissing trees, Before you see the forest bleed” shows how easy it is to get wrapped up in superficial things and miss the bigger picture. The singer is struggling to resist the temptation of becoming a Teen creep and leaving their old self behind, but they can’t seem to do it.

The chorus, “Teen creeps I've tried to hold it back, So let me leave your welcome mat, I won't end up like them at all” underscores the struggle within the singer to resist becoming a Teen creep. The metaphor of the “welcome mat” symbolizes the pull towards giving in and becoming like them, and the line “I won't end up like them at all” shows that the singer is determined to not give in.

The last verse, “Wash away what we create, I hate you more I hate this place, I know why I feel this way, Teen creeps please don't leave me dead, dead this way” speaks to the desire to start anew and break free from one's past, while also being afraid of leaving it all behind. The Teen creeps are both the personification of the singer's fears and the ones who may help them to break free.
