The bandโs moody, interlocking guitars and ethereal vocals allowed them to fit on bills with bands as diverse as Wavves, Harvey Milk, and Besnard Lakes. Meanwhile, Mexican Summer signed No Joy and issued their self-titled 7", which was produced by Miracle Fortress' Graham Van Pelt in 2010. The band expanded to a four-piece and enlisted the Raveonettes' Sune Rose-Wagner to mix their full-length album, Ghost Blonde, which was released in November 2010.
Their second album Wait To Pleasure was released in April 2013 to critical acclaim.
No Joy followed up Wait To Pleasure with an EP released November 5 2013 entitled "Pastel and Pass Out"

Lunar Phobia
No Joy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All this ...was in here somehow
Hear the night, hear it now
This was here in the night
Iโm much to say...
Itโs where we met, simple light
To where we are, itโs hard to say
Hear the night, hear it now
All this ...was in here somehow
Hear the night, hear it now
This was here in the night
Iโm much to say...
Itโs where we met, simple light
To where we are, itโs hard to say
Itโs hard enough...
Iโm much to say...
Itโs where we met, simple light
To where we are, itโs hard to say
Itโs hard enough...
Hold the sun, hold the sun
It will be over...
The lyrics of No Joy's song Lunar Phobia are mysterious and open to interpretation. The repetition of the verse "Hear the night, hear it now/All this...was in here somehow/This was here in the night" creates a haunting atmosphere that suggests that something ominous is lurking in the darkness. The use of the word "somehow" implies that there is something inexplicable about the events of the night and that they are beyond our control. The singer seems to be struggling to put their experience into words, saying "I'm much to say...It's where we met, simple light/To where we are, it's hard to say/It's hard enough..." This could suggest that the events of the night were so intense and otherworldly that they cannot be easily explained or understood.
The final lines of the song, "Hold the sun, hold the sun/It will be over..." suggest that there is a sense of impending doom or danger that the singer is trying to escape from. The phrase "hold the sun" implies a sense of desperation, as if the singer is reaching for something warm and comforting to protect them from the cold and dark of the night. Overall, the lyrics of Lunar Phobia are cryptic and dreamlike, evoking a sense of unease and uncertainty.

Dreamlike, acid dreamers - good trip takes me into inner mental cavern to recap long lost memories - no joy - lunar phobia -very cosmic. Rich. I'd like to live in an honest world where this is what I see at the Grammy awards...just dreaming. Hey, also this is what was happening in '88, '89 with Lush and Manchester Merseybeat music scene, they were like this. Lunar condenses them, good.

I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect synergy between song and video. For my money, No Joy is at the top of the list of best kept secrets. There isn't even a classification for them. Their depths may very well never be fully known, but one can see beautiful, stunning, intricate and surreal just from peering down the well. As for the rest, unless jumping in isn't out of the question, wonder, imagination and awe will have to suffice.
