비정한세상

I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion No.9

I told her that I was a flop with chics
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said 'What you need is Love Potion No.9'

She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said 'I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink'
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink

I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion No.9

I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion No.9

The clarity on this recording is amazing to say the least.......who ever mixed this is a wizard........

It was Mad Bob Neubaum

Probably a 3 track recording. Left, Right and vocals. The "mixing" was done during the recording of the track. Back then you had to make decisions early on.

Mikky Whalan

Especially for the time.

Honestly, for the era this came out in, this is surprisingly original and genuine in presentation. I love it.

Mrmojorisin

Like with most great songs at the time, this was written and performed by black folks and covered by white ones

Loven Kind

And its not their song

@Arthur Bultman This came out in the 50's, an era where art portraying cultural taboos were frowned upon. Most were just doo-wop or love songs. This might be since it was at the end of the decade in '59 but this song has a lot more in common with 60's music than 50's. It has a subtle but noticeable psychedelic sound to it, a hard beat matched to a slow tempo, and it makes almost blatant reference to using ecstacy, a big no-no in the 50's. To me, in an era like the 50's, I think they took that step to be original rather than conform to the trending sound.

+TheEndergun I don't understand what you mean...How is it different for the era it's from? I'm genuinely interested in what you mean

I love the sound of 60s music
