Biggest Lie
No Use for a Name Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ladies and gentleman we interrupt or program of dance music to bring you a special bulletin from the in continental news."

The writing's on the wall, but no one cares at all
To convey the message that we wrote ourselves
Destroy the walls we mend and burn the candle at both ends

(I really think we are)
Becoming more mindless of the heart
(Becoming everything we hate)
Building our castles for the future
(A Trojan horse is at the gate)
Built by the enemy that we made

It's false sincerity, we hear celebrities
"Buy a hybrid if you can" with ten years of your food stamps
Caught myself listening to sheltered excuses for human beings

(So it becomes elite)
They separate then what have we got?
(Nothing in common with their wealth)
One clip can change public opinion
(One sin can send you straight to hell)
Learned how to lie and not get caught
More piss in the melting pot

Shut out majority with riches
(Their words become more valuable)
Then the voice of a million starving children
(That they have a million ways to solve)

Left freedom bleeding on the roadside,
We believe the biggest lie

Overall Meaning

The song "Biggest Lie" by No Use For A Name is a damning critique of society's apathy and hypocrisy. The song opens with a news bulletin interrupting the dance music program to deliver an important message, setting a somber tone for the rest of the song. The writing's on the wall, but no one cares at all - this line sets the theme for the rest of the song. The message that we wrote ourselves is being ignored as we continue to destroy the walls we mend, burning the candle at both ends. The song is a commentary on the shallowness of the society we live in, our obsession with consumerism and the cost it has on society.

The lyrics go on to describe the self-destructive tendencies of society becoming more mindless of the heart. We are unwittingly building castles for the future, but the Trojan horse is at the gate, built by the enemy we made. The false sincerity of celebrities telling us to buy a hybrid, while ignoring the plight of the starving children around the world, is a clear indication of how much society values things over people. The song is a call to action, asking us to recognize the lies we are being fed and to look for the truth instead.

Overall, "Biggest Lie" is a powerful indictment of society's faults, and a plea for us to wake up and take action. The song's lyrics are straightforward and to the point, but still manage to convey a powerful message. If we can recognize the truth and work together, we may be able to make a difference.

Can you all imagine, just for a second, if Tony was still around. If No Use was still around. Just, the absolutely amazing songs that would come out of the last four years. Tony would have so much material to choose from. And those songs, like the rest that came before them, would be some of the greatest songs ever written. He will always be missed. But... he will also always be remembered.

@Beanie Boo Reviews I wouldn’t necessarily say that everyone else was getting worse. I think a good majority were just staying on the plateau they last achieved. Some did get worse, for sure. But, for instance, Strung Out… In my opinion one of best punk rock bands to ever exist. I first heard them with An American Paradox and was hooked. Then Exile came and it was incredible. I would honestly call Exile a perfect album. But then came Blackhawks, and it just seemed like nothing special. It still had that Strung Out feel, but just didn’t resonate with me. Same goes for Agents and Transmission. It wasn’t until Blackout the Sun that I felt how I did with Exile. It was almost like they wiped the slate to begin anew. And then Songs of Armor and Devotion came and brought the fire.

I seem to have gone on a tangent. Sorry. Yes, No Use never got old or grew stagnant. They were always climbing, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but always climbing.

Beanie Boo Reviews

Dude seriously. While everyone else was getting worse and worse. They were getting better and better.
