Divinity
Noctem Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Scarred*
Unleashed for vengeance
Destroying everything on my way
Won't await their sentence
Never under their sway
Can this world be normal?
When an executioner becomes a judge
When a corrupted man becomes a God
And when life on earth
Becomes a living hell
So
We're back here yet again
Looking for a welfare never found
Deluded once again
Open-eyed but blind
Fully drenched in acid bath
Unable to complete the path
Distorted by the thirst of dough
Eroded minds but we never get enough
Endless stairs to nowhere
My wilted mouth is my last lair
Weakened, declining
Wreaking havoc in the last
Human part of me
Conceived in the sin and there
Is no remedy
Collapsing at birth and there's
No return
We are the wolves
We seize the night:
No slave, no lord
Devoted to the unlight
We're cruel and determined:
Beware our hordes
Asphyxiation erasing your mind
Domination crushing your life

You're war-infected, corroded
And alone

Overall Meaning

The song "Divinity" by Noctem is a fierce cry against the corruption and injustice that plagues our world. The lyrics speak of a world gone mad, where those who are supposed to protect and serve have become cruel and corrupt tyrants. The singer of the song is scarred and seeking vengeance, destroying everything in his path. He is unwilling to be controlled by those who have corrupted the system and turned it against the people. The lyrics ask whether this world can ever be normal when those who were once executioners have become judges, and the corrupted have become gods. The singer sees the world as a living hell and is determined to fight against it.

The second verse of the song reveals that the singer is not alone, but is part of a group of people who have also been destroyed by the corruption and injustice of the world. They are looking for a way out, but are unable to find it. They are deluded, open-eyed but blind, fully drenched in the acid bath of the world's corruption. The endless stairs they climb lead nowhere, and their minds are eroded by the thirst for money and power. The final lines of the song describe the group as wolves, who seize the night and are devoted to the unlight. They are cruel and determined, and those who cross them will be asphyxiated and crushed.

Overall, "Divinity" is a powerful statement against the corruption and injustice that exists in our world. It highlights the damage that can be done when power becomes concentrated in the hands of a few, and those who are supposed to serve the people become cruel and unfeeling. The song is a call to arms for those who are willing to stand up and fight against injustice, and it speaks to the human desire for freedom and justice in the face of oppression.

Line by Line Meaning

Scarred*
Starting off by highlighting that, possibly, the singer or some character is in a state of being damaged or wounded. The '*' symbol makes it even more unclear and intriguing to the listener.

Unleashed for vengeance
The same character who is scarred is now free and set on a mission of revenge. Something must have been done to him/her that caused the scarring.

Destroying everything on my way
The said character is causing destruction wherever he/she goes or at least doesn't care about any collateral damage, given the freedom to seek vengeance.

Won't await their sentence
This could imply that the wrong-doers aren't going to get a chance to defend themselves or receive legal justice, as vengeance is the priority.

Never under their sway
The singer or the character takes pride in being uncontrolled or not influenced by outside factors.

Can this world be normal?
Through a rhetorical question, the theme of the song shifts: instead of dealing with personal issues, the singer is looking at the world and how screwed it is due to the following lines.

When an executioner becomes a judge
The world's justice system is so flawed that one who was responsible for killing people without a fair trial could now be sitting in judgement of others.

When a corrupted man becomes a God
The society is so unhealthy that corrupt people are getting unlimited power and control, which they use in any way they desire, possibly making them godlike.

And when life on earth
The continuation of the same rhetorical question sets up for the final line of the song, bringing it all together.

Becomes a living hell
The world that society has built has transformed into a hellish existence, where justice is a myth, and power is with the corrupt.

So
Concluding the previous section, this now leads into another intense one. One of confusion and a search for something that can bring comfort.

We're back here yet again
The character roaming from the first section is back. This could mean returning to a specific location or a theme or search of a particular goal.

Looking for a welfare never found
The character is searching for a version of peace or comfort that is elusive and never been found, possibly tying into the hellish environment mentioned earlier. The word choice of 'welfare' may have negative connotations used in association with a welfare state in politics.

Deluded once again
The individual is not capable of finding solace in their situation, possibly giving up and becoming delusional.

Open-eyed but blind
Playing off a metaphor, the character can see, but doesn't grasp the full picture. They are blind to whatever circumstances led to their fighting.

Fully drenched in acid bath
An intense image that could be linked to the feeling of pure sadness or anger. The 'acid bath' could relate to a feeling of being corroded away from the inside out entirely.

Unable to complete the path
The individual has given up completely, or possibly succumbed to the negative feelings mentioned in the previous lines, who knows that things won't get better.

Distorted by the thirst of dough
The character's intentions have been misshapen by greed or just seeking some sort of personal profit out of the situation they are in.

Eroded minds but we never get enough
Continuing the previous line, the other torment members fight in the same way for the same reasons, never truly getting any peace even if they succeed.

Endless stairs to nowhere
The situation, goal or quest has gone nowhere, is not ending anytime soon and doesn't have an endpoint.

My wilted mouth is my last lair
The character is stuck in a position where only their own voice could justify them, but after all they have been through they're too weak and helpless to speak out or change anything.

Weakened, declining
The character is getting weaker and weaker as time goes, possibly losing their grip or power over their fight.

Wreaking havoc in the last
The final battle or phase of the plan is filled with slaughter or extreme destruction towards something.

Human part of me
'The human part' infers that the character has had to give up their humanity- morals, beliefs, or empathy to complete their purpose. This act also suggests going to extreme lengths.

Conceived in sin, and there
The character's roots are in sin- possibly hinting at something that led to the scarring and the need for vengeance that has lasted for a long time.

Is no remedy
The situation is hopeless with no cure or solution for what the character has gone through or the pain caused to them.

Collapsing at birth and there's
From the start of life or an early age, something was wrong and has set up a course of action for the character to follow

No return
Whatever happened in the past will have a great impact on the future, keeping the character stuck in the same cycle of revenge.

We are the wolves
The connection to wolves could signify strength, independence, and a pack mentality, as well as the attackers of innocence.

We seize the night:
It's possible that whatever unlawful activity the wolves are doing is better suited for when the daylight is gone and darkness engulfs everything.

No slave, no lord
The wolves command power and control: no one has dominion over them, nor are they in servitude to anyone themselves.

Devoted to the unlight
They have sworn their loyalty to a dark and sinister cause, which could relate to their thirst for justice or vengeance

We're cruel and determined:
Another quality of the wolf; their cruelty could be linked to the kill-first mentality and affect those who come between them and their goal.

Beware our hordes
The 'hordes' could signify a group of wolves or possibly relating back to an earlier mention of corrupt people.

Asphyxiation erasing your mind
The violence shown by the wolves could be so overpowering that it has the potential to erase memories or thoughts of their victims.

Domination crushing your life
The victims that fall prey to the wolves will have their lives crushed away by them. This ties back in with the imagery of the living hell mentioned earlier on.

War-infected, corroded
The environment or the society that the characters exist in has created these fighters. Each action, battle or loss makes the character corrode internally, possibly also linking in with the 'acid bath' imagery.

And alone
The characters walk alone now have become too engrossed in whatever purpose they set out for themselves, giving up friendship, relationships or social aspects of their lives.

Divinity Lyrics

A look, a sigh, a divine caress, a dream to fulfill
I can touch with my hands the favor of the divine gods
Ia set! Of the eternal deity, nourish yourself with mortal flesh
The craniums are accumulated under your throne
They glide with your golden wings
Take my soul beyond of the stars
Let's overthrow the sons of Geb
The lunar eclipse the might of a sun announcing death
Apophis! more ancient than the memories
Beyond the line of the horizon
Takes my offering divine
Conquests the kingdom of flesh
Crown me beyond of the stars
Grant me the sacred eternal life
