Their first three albums ('In a Time of Blood and Fire', 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' and 'The Sacred Talisman') feature the former vocalist Anders Zackrisson, while the newer albums are sung by Johnny Lindkvist. Also the musical style has changed a bit during the years; some demo's were something more like death metal, but then the three first cd releases pure melodic power metal, and on "Afterlife" they took a bit heavier approach with influences of true heavy metal like Masterplan and Dream evil and even some thrash metal riffs, though the melodic choruses were kept right in the core of the songs.
They have released a few more albums since, with the latest ones being 'Grand Illusion' that came in 2005 and '8th Sin' that came out in 2007. The band keeps on fighting on and remains one of Scandinavia's best known power metal bands.
On June 21st, 2008 it was announced that guitarist Nils Norberg has left the band. On May 9th, 2010, Chris Rörland joined Nocturnal Rites. A video of him playing and Fredrik Mannberg talking a bit about him can be seen here.

Don't ever betray, you feel me; I subdue
Trust you seek, and you'll find a messiah,
Take the stone ‘round your neck away
Don't you ever display my fear,
I'm yours, so come what may
The cold's forevermore
Don't you see, you are your own enemy
So I'll fight, stand or fall
Choose my fate, feel how it's calling to us all
Stand or fall, the new world messiah
And the dawn of man
There are times when it beckons to me,
Grips my throat and just pulls me in
Here I am but a shadow's worth,
to wash away my sins
Oh, and I opened the door
The cold's forevermore
Don't you see, you are your own enemy
So I'll fight, stand or fall
Choose my fate, feel how it's calling to us all
Stand or fall, the new world messiah
And the dawn of man
Oh, and I opened the door
The cold's forevermore
Don't you see, you are your own enemy
So I'll fight, stand or fall
Choose my fate, feel how it's calling to us all
Stand or fall, the new world messiah
And the dawn of man
Stand or fall
Choose my fate, feel how it's calling to us all
Stand or fall, the new world messiah
And the dawn of man
The lyrics to Nocturnal Rites' song New World Messiah explore themes of trust, control, and self-determination. The singer is in a world of silence, perhaps feeling isolated or oppressed. They implore the listener not to betray them, and express their submission to the listener's control. The refrain encourages the listener to seek a messiah and remove the "stone 'round your neck" that may be holding you back.
However, the bridge takes on a darker tone. The singer acknowledges that temptation and the desire to sin can be strong, and that they are not perfect. They feel like a shadow in comparison to the power of their own temptations, but they hope to cleanse themselves of sin. The chorus returns, encouraging the listener to stand or fall, to choose their own fate, and to become the "new world messiah" that heralds a new era for all of humanity.
Overall, the lyrics to New World Messiah seem to encourage the listener to take control of their lives and find their own path to redemption. The singer acknowledges that the journey may not be easy, but they urge the listener to stay strong and persevere.

3:57 I love how the ending changes from a minor chord to a major chord before finishing. Completes a very good song.

Saw them live around 2004, was fantastic, if i remember correctly tad morose and nocturnal rites was playing before Edguy, nocturnal rites was kickass but a little stiff, the drummer did everything you hear even if it's recorded with midi drums, he followed it to perfection as i remember it.
Once the singer got hot, the show took off and was fantastic! But the shocker for me, was Tad morose, who did their best show possibly ever. They stormed the stage like a fucking madman on speed and just layed the songs on us like we stole their donuts, it was real brutal, hard and metal as fuck. The band was fantastic and i baught every single tad morose record after that aswell. Edguy was as always a band you should see live, the singer wasnt to good but the drummer was amazing as always. Also many guests were on the shows like micke dee & the candlemass dudes (back again with messiah) who had a show in the town same weekend.
Two weekends after this show, Destruction was on saturday and exodus was on sunday, with Cryptopsy on the fucking firday, THAT weekend rocked aswell... Back when Sweden were clad in denim and leather and gothenburg was called metaltown and not ... the shame our land is now...
Back when hammerfal, in flames, evergrey, dissection, tägtgren, mickey dee, the haunted and sabaton was a common thing to see in your shopping malls, bars and to simply talk to when you wanted some news on upcoming shows so you could prepare the sallary accordingly to metal.
I'm so fucking bored from this virus i'm writing half a fucking book on youtube, dear god.
