Venable performed in numerous theatrical and musical productions as a youth with the San Francisco-based Young People's Teen Musical Theater Company. She was also in the cast of the Lewis Carroll-themed musicals "Right Mind" and "Right Mind is Nowhere" directed by George Coates.
Her original one-act play "Annie Beckstead Does Her Homework" won at the Rocky Mountain Student Theater Project in Telluride, CO. She attended Bennington College as a Dramatic Writing and then a Music major before deciding to pursue music as a career.
In 2004 Venable moved to Brooklyn where she continues to compose and perform with longtime-collaborators Todd Sickafoose and Alan Lin. Her songs are noteworthy for their striking melodies and complex subject matter, and she invites comparison with musicians Elliott Smith and Mazzy Star.
Her albums include You Talking to Me? (1996), No Curses Here (1998), Down Easy (2000), Boots (2002), The World Is Bound by Secret Knots (2003), and The Summer Storm Journals (2007).
Noe is rumoured to have a second new album in the works, "a concept album-rock-opera-story thing" (the first being the recently released SSJ, a collection of songs), as stated on one of her rant room entries on her website.
Tinkerbell
Noe Venable Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bashing into window panes
But who is gonna need a light
In the buggy buzzy neon night?
Tinkerbell takes off her rags
Empties out her saddle bags
And watching all the cracks in the wall rearrange
"probably time I looked into
Some other things a girl can do
Could sell my body
To light up someone's t.v..."
But something comes through at last
So it doesn't come to that
Luckily a girl lost her ring in the rain
So tinkerbell is dangling down a drain
And there in the sewer she
Sees a thing she's never seen
A constellation <---(crossed out) thousands of shiny useless objects
Glimmering
The lyrics of Noe Venable's "Tinkerbell" are about a woman named Tinkerbell who is trying to find her place in the world. The song starts with Tinkerbell trying to break through the window panes with her head, which could be a metaphor for her trying to force herself into a particular mold that doesn't fit her. The line "who is gonna need a light in the buggy buzzy neon night?" suggests that Tinkerbell feels irrelevant and unnecessary in the world around her.
Tinkerbell then decides to take off her rags and reassess her life. She's open to change and wants to explore other things that she can do. However, when she considers selling her body to light up someone's TV, she realizes that she needs to find a different path. Luck comes her way when she finds a girl's lost ring in a drain. Tinkerbell uses this opportunity to discover something new, which turns out to be a constellation of shiny, useless objects in the sewer. This could represent Tinkerbell embracing the beauty in unexpected places and finding her own unique path.
Overall, "Tinkerbell" is a song about finding oneself and embracing the unexpected. It encourages listeners to look beyond the norm and find beauty in the overlooked.
