Considered to be one of Australia's more successful rock bands of the late 1980s, their self-titled debut in 1987 had a series of successful singles, such as "No Lies," "Take Me Back," and "Welcome to the World." The band's second album, 1989's Touch, proved to be less successful commercially. Noiseworks disbanded in 1992, shortly after the release of the group's third album, Love Versus Money (1991).
Stevens has forged a successful solo career since Noiseworks with the albums Circle and Ain't No Life For The Faint Hearted. He went on to become the lead singer of INXS, but left after when he became frustrated with the band's lack of progress in generating new material.

Noiseworks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's not the only thing that makes
You and I, you and I so different
You don't need to twist my mind
You don't need me to deny
In this day and age I would not sacrifice
Freedom (4x)
We all have the choice to make
To be lost or to have faith
You and I, you and I together
If you believe in temple faith
If you believe that's what you need
You will find, you will find your freedom
Freedom (4x)
Gotta give, gotta give all it takes
Gotta light the fire for freedom's sake
Gotta give, gotta give all it takes
Gotta light the fire for freedom's sake
Freedom, freedom
FREEDOM!
The lyrics to Noiseworks's song "Freedom" address the concept of individualism and personal choice. The opening lines reject the idea of "temple faith" as the only path to difference, implying that one's beliefs should not be forced upon another. The second verse offers a contrasting perspective, acknowledging that some may find comfort in "temple faith" if it is something they truly believe in. The chorus, which repeats the word "freedom" several times, acts as an assertion of one's right to choose their own beliefs and live their life as they see fit. The final lines, "Gotta give, gotta give all it takes / Gotta light the fire for freedom's sake," suggest that maintaining freedom requires effort and sacrifice.
Overall, the song is a call for people to respect one another's choices and live their lives authentically. It encourages listeners to be true to themselves and not compromise their values, even if others do not necessarily understand or agree with them.
