The Wind
Nolan Strong Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wind wind blow oooooh oooh blow wind wind
When the cool summer breeze
Sends a chill down my spine
And I long for my love's sweet caress
I know she is gone but my love lingers on
In a dream that the wind brings to me
I remember as we kissed in the cool summer breeze
As she lay warm and tender in my arms
Darlin, when a star falls I wish for you;
And darlin', when I see lover's making love I long for you ...
And when the sun and the stars are shinnng above the mountains and the valleys,
Then darlin I look for you;
And even until the heavens above can no longer shine,
Even until then I shall still love you.

I know she is gone but my love it lingers on
In a dream that the wind brings to me.

Overall Meaning

In Nolan Strong's song "The Wind," the singer reflects on his lost love while the wind blows around him. The lyrics are a mixture of nostalgia and longing as the singer remembers the moments he shared with his lover while also acknowledging that she is no longer with him. The wind serves as a metaphor for the memories that continue to blow through his mind and bring him both pain and comfort.

The opening lines, "Wind wind blow oooooh oooh blow wind wind," set the tone of the song with a haunting and mournful sound. The first verse describes the physical sensation of the wind blowing through the singer's body and triggering memories of his lover. The second verse reveals the depth of his love and how it continues to persist even after she's gone. The chorus expresses the various ways in which he wishes he could be with her again, from dreaming of her to seeing other couples in love.

I think the year was 1955, I was 12, I walked into a small luncheonette around the corner from where we lived. I was with a couple of friends, one of which had an older brother (17) who hung out there with the neighborhood hoodlums. The Wind by the Diablos was playing on the Jukebox and I was completely blown away. I had never heard any R&B or Rock and Roll before or had ever seen a Jukebox. From then on, I ate up everything Rock and Roll. I knew every song, every group (or so it seems). Some friends called me "The walking Tunebox". I used to go to other neighborhoods to hear local kids singing Acapella. Every schoolyard in just about every neighborhood had guys "Hitting Notes". Listened to Alan Freed every Saturday morning in bed with the radio pressed against my ear. Went to all the Rock shows at the Apollo up in Harlem and at The Paramount. I guess I'm rambling on now, Miss the old days and the music. Not the shit they put out today. I'll end now with special thanks to Nolan Strong, The Diablos, The Wind and all the beautiful music that was to follow through my youth.
