Don't Wait
Nona Gaye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I met him in November
In the nick of time he came
He told me I would never have to worry again
My troubles would be over
Life continues on it's plan
He strangely disappeared, not I'm alone again
Take my advice and don't wait
(Don't wait until it happens to ya)
Make sure you're all he's thinking of
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision)
Unless established first is love

He said he'd never leave me
Had many plans for us to share
He said that if I needed him, he'd always be there
(So crucial) Things are looking crucial
(So crucial) Nothing but dark clouds in the sky
He's not even around to say everything's alright
Take my advice and don't wait

(Don't wait until it happens to ya) oh, just make sure
(Make sure you're all he's thinking of) you're all he's thinking of
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision) don't let his sweetness
Blur your vision
(Unless established first is love) blur your vision, please don't wait
(Don't wait until it happens to ya) you got to make sure
(Make sure you're all he's thinking of) now, now you're all, you're all,
You're all he's thinking of
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision) hey yeah
(Unless established first is love)

Got to find it (tender lover)
Like no other (like no other)
Yeah! (that sticks with you like a brother)
So take my advice, my advice

(So crucial) Oh!
(So crucial) ba-da-bop, don't wait
(So crucial) ba-da-bop, don't wait
(So crucial) ba-da-bop, don't wait

Got to find it (tender lover)
Like no other (like no other)
That sticks with you (that sticks with you like a brother)
So take my advice, my advice

(Don't wait until it happens to ya) please don't wait
(Make sure you're all he's thinking of)
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision) don't let his sweetness
Blur your vision, blur your vision
(Unless established first is love)
(Don't wait until it happens to ya) ba-da-bop, don't wait
(Make sure you're all he's thinking of) ba-da-bop, don't wait
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision) ba-da-bop, don't wait
(Unless established first is love)
(Don't wait until it happens to ya) oh, just make sure
(Make sure you're all he's thinking of) you're all he's thinking of, thinking of
(Don't let his sweetness blur your vision) got to make sure
(Unless established first is love)

So take my advice, my advice.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nona Gaye's song "Don't Wait" tell a story of a relationship that started well but ended in disappointment. The singer met someone in November who promised her the world, including a solution to her problems. However, he soon disappears, leaving her alone once again. The singer advises listeners not to wait for something similar to happen to them and to make sure that their partner truly loves them before they commit their heart and soul.

The first verse sets the scene for the story. The singer meets someone in November, who seems to have appeared at the perfect time. He tells her that she won't have to worry again, and that her troubles are over. He promises that they will share many things together and that he will always be there for her. However, his sudden disappearance leaves the singer alone again.

The second verse is the advice that the singer gives to others. She tells them not to wait until something similar happens to them. The singer encourages listeners to make sure their partner is thinking of them and that their partner's sweetness doesn't cloud their vision before they establish love. The refrain repeats the advice with different variations of melody and lyrics, stating that listeners need to find a partner who is like no other and who sticks with them like a brother.

Overall, "Don't Wait" is a cautionary tale about the dangers of falling for someone quickly without ensuring that they are committed to the relationship. The song's message is that it's better to wait and ensure that the love is real rather than rushing to commit and being hurt later on.

my song

@EightiesMusiqLover

Was she talking about Prince? Because they had a thing back then where they were even engaged with a set time and date to be wed, but of course Prince gave Nona the slip over to my lu lu but when you get there you won’t find me......ever. Poor Nona, back then she was so young, Nieve, and gullible.

The real question is, did Prince give her the slip before or after this song “Don’t Wait” was recorded.......?

@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753

"Nieve and gullible?" I think it's a damn lowlife, who plays games with people's feelings. What kind of upbringing is that? Life is way too short for such trifling games. #KHARMA
