Above Ground

Just below the crowded avenue
Watchin' red lights fading out of view
Oh, the air feels heavy
Everything just passes by
And I think that I'm a little shy
Meet me outside above ground
I see you on your way
I'll be with you someday, someday
Drawing lines above my head
But the fan keeps spinning over me
Just my thoughts to keep me company
Now I know I'm ready
Pour the night into a glass
Can I sip it slow and make it last
Meet me outside above ground
I see you on your way
I'll be with you someday, someday
Meet me outside above ground
I see you on your way
I'll be with you someday
I'll be with you someday
I'll be with you someday
I'll be with you someday
The song "Above Ground" by Norah Jones is a melancholic and introspective one. The lyrics describe the singer's desire to escape the suffocating feeling of being underground and to meet someone outside, above ground. The first verse sets the atmosphere of the song by describing the singer's surroundings in the underground, where everything passes by, and the air feels heavy. The second verse shows the singer's readiness to leave the underground and face the world, but with the need to move slowly and savor each moment. The chorus of the song repeats the singer's wish to meet the person on the outside, emphasizing the hope she has for a brighter future. The final repetition of the chorus shows the singer's determination to meet that person eventually, no matter how long it will take.
The lyrics of "Above Ground" can relate to anyone who has ever felt stuck or trapped in a situation, longing for a change. The song's slow pace and quiet melody delicately convey the singer's emotions. The lyrics remind us that even in the midst of darkness, there is always hope for a better future.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
