Baby It's Cold Outside

Baby, it's cold outside
I've got to go away
But baby, it's cold outside
This evening has been
Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice
I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry
Beautiful, what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor
Listen to the fireplace roar
So really, I'd better scurry
Beautiful, please don't hurry
Well, maybe just a half a drink more
Put some records on while I pour
Neighbors might think
Baby it's bad out there
Say what's in this drink?
No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how
Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell
I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir
Mind if I move in closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried
What's the sense of hurting my pride?
I really can't stay
Baby, don't hold out
Baby, it's cold outside
I simply must go
Baby, it's cold outside
Oh, the answer is no
Baby, it's cold outside
Your welcome has been
How lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm
Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious
Gosh, your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door
Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is so vicious
Your lips are delicious
Well, maybe just a cigarette more
Never such a blizzard before
I've got to get home
Baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me a coat
It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand
I thrill when you touch my hand
But don't you see?
How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow
Think of my lifelong sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied
If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay
Get over that holdout
Baby, it's cold outside
The song "Baby it's cold outside" sung by Norah Jones and Willie Nelson is a classic duet between two lovers who are reluctant to say goodbye. The lyrics explore themes of seduction, social pressure, and the ambiguity of consent. The song's catchy melody and witty lyrics have made it a holiday favorite since its release in 1944.
The first verse sets the playful tone of the song. The female character expresses her desire to leave due to the cold weather, but the male character persuades her to stay by stating that he has been hoping for her visit. The male then offers to warm her hands while they talk, creating physical closeness between the two. The second verse brings up the social pressure the couple may face, expressing concern about the woman's parents worrying about her being out too long. The male character continues to offer her drinks and plays music to keep her entertained. The third verse takes a slightly darker turn, as the female character expresses her concern that others may misinterpret her staying with the male character, questioning what's in her drink. The male character continues to encourage her as he tells her how beautiful she looks.
Verse four sees the female character trying to make an excuse to leave, thinking that maybe the male character just wanted some company. The male character responds to her reluctance with a playful, suggestive manner, asking if he can move in closer. The tension builds as both characters reluctantly express their desire to stay or leave. The fifth verse sees the female character ready to leave, but she needs a coat to go outside, so the male offers to lend her his. Finally, in the last verse, the female character's sense of propriety returns, and she questions what people will think of her spending the night with the male character. In response, the male suggests that she may catch pneumonia outside, and that would be worse.
Overall the song explores the nuances of a relationship between two individuals who are interested in each other, but societal pressures make them question their actions. The ambiguity of the situation raises questions about consent, but it is ultimately up to the listener to interpret the characters' intentions.

This is by far the best version for this song. You can feel the complicity of both, the smooth flirting, the moral dilemma and the tasteful respectful desire. Beautiful song.

Willie Nelson sings like a country guitar. His twinging and twanging voice with her smooth sultry style in this smooth jazzy piece are the perfect contrast and combination. People can whine about Willie all they want but I love this version.

ooooOOOOooo not quite the best....lol sorry, but Dean Martin and Doris Day has 'em beat by a smidge (for me anyway), and I'm loving Lady Gaga and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's take on it too. This is refreshing though, isn't it?

O.L. Pritchett Awwww.....I really hated the Lady Gaga version. Levitt was very classy, but she looked and her body language was horrible. It was awkward to me. :( This one is my FAV.

Gaga dropped at least 3 of her lines lol... I think she was on dope
