Back to Manhattan

As if nothing ever happened.
When I cross that bridge,
It'll be as if this don't exist.
Have a prince who is waiting,
And a kingdom downtown.
I'll go back to Manhattan,
As if nothing ever happened
Don't have to speak at all.
One look in your eyes,
And I won't have to fall,
Don't have to speak at all.
Brooklyn holds you
And holds my heart too.
What a fool I was to think
I could live in both worlds.
Don't have to speak at all.
One look in your eyes,
And I won't have to fall,
Don't have to speak at all.
I should go back to Manhattan,
It's just a train ride away.
I know nothing about leaving,
But I know I should do it today.
In the lyrics of the song, "Back to Manhattan," Norah Jones speaks of a longing to return to New York City, where she has a prince and a kingdom waiting for her. She describes a feeling of wanting to escape her current situation and return to a place where she feels she is in control. The lines "when I cross that bridge, it'll be as if this don't exist" convey a desire to start fresh and forget about the past.
The song is also about the difficulty of living in two worlds. Jones mentions that Brooklyn "holds" her and her heart, but she still longs for Manhattan. She considers herself a "fool" for trying to live in both places at once. The line "Don't have to speak at all" emphasizes the connection she feels with the person she is addressing. They don't need to speak to understand each other.
Overall, "Back to Manhattan" is a song about longing for a place where one feels at home and connected. It conveys a feeling of wanting to escape and start fresh, but also the difficulty of leaving behind the familiar and the comfortable.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
