Be Here to Love Me
Norah Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In all this confusion of mine
Though you and I both know
It's only the warm glow of wine
That's got you to feeling this way,
But I don't care,
I want you to stay
And hold me and tell me You'll be here to love me today
Children are dancin',
The gamblers are chancin' their all
The window's accusing
The door of abusing the wall
But who cares
What the night watchmen say
The stage has been set for the play
Hold me and tell me
You'll be here to love me today
The moon's come and gone
But a few stars hang on on to the sky
The wind's runnin' free
But it ain't up to me ask why
The poets are demanding their pay
They've left me with nothin' to say
'cept hold me and tell me
You'll be here to love me today
Just hold me and tell me that
You'll be here to love me today
The song "Be Here to Love Me," sung by Norah Jones, is a melancholic ballad of love, pain, and longing. The song speaks of a desire for love that is fleeting, yet impossible to ignore, represented by the warm glow of wine. The first stanza begins by saying "Your eyes seek conclusion; In all this confusion of mine," signaling that there is something incomplete and unsettled in the songwriter's life. She then goes on to acknowledge that the warmth of wine is responsible for the feeling of love between them but begs the person not to leave as it is the only solace she has.
In the following stanza, the writer moves beyond herself, describing a scene of chaos and disorder outside. Yet, amidst this confusion, there is hope in the form of love. "But who cares, what the night watchmen say, the stage has been set for the play." This line sets the stage for the idea that romance is a powerful force, one that can overcome even the most overwhelming stressors. In the final stanza, the writer acknowledges her helplessness in the face of love. She speaks of the poets who demand their pay and of being left with nothing to say. In the end, all that remains is a desperate yearning for the warmth of love, as the writer begs the person not to leave and to hold her close, "Just hold me and tell me that you'll be here to love me today."
Overall, the lyrics of "Be Here to Love Me" are a powerful and emotional portrayal of the desperation to hold onto love. The lyrics speak to the idea that regardless of the outside world's chaos, love can offer a sense of stability and comfort, truly making it an all-encompassing force to be reckoned with.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
