I'm so lonesome all the time
Since I left my baby behind
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickels saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where you sleep all day
And the catfish play
On Blue Bayou
Where those fishing boats
With their sails afloat
If I could only see
That familiar sunrise
Through sleepy eyes
How happy I'd be
Maybe I'll go back there again
Maybe I'll see some of my friends
Maybe I'll be happy again
On Blue Bayou
Saving nickels saving dimes
Working til the sun don't shine
Looking forward to happier times
On Blue Bayou
I'm going back someday
Come what may
To Blue Bayou
Where the folks are fine
And the world is mine
On Blue Bayou
Where that girl of mine
By my side
The silver moon
And the evening tide
Oh some sweet day
Gonna take away
This hurting inside
Oh I'll never be blue
My dreams come true
On Blue Bayou
The song "Blue Bayou" by Norah Jones feat. M. Ward is a cover of a song originally written and recorded by Roy Orbison in 1963. The lyrics are about longing for a place called Blue Bayou where the singer left their lover behind and is feeling lonely all the time. The singer is saving money, working hard, and looking forward to happier times when they can go back to the place they left behind. They want to see the familiar sunrise through sleepy eyes and be happy again. The singer hopes to one day take away the hurting inside and have their dreams come true on Blue Bayou.
The song has a slow, melancholy tone that matches the wistful lyrics. Norah Jones and M. Ward's version of the song adds a slight country twang, making it a mix of blues, country, and jazz. The harmonies between their voices are compelling, and the guitar and piano accompaniment is restrained and supportive. It’s interesting to note that Roy Orbison’s version of the song had a slightly more upbeat sound, with a heavier focus on the drums and a more prominent string section.

Such a different take than the Linda Ronstadt version, but really good. It's not often someone can remake such an iconic song so differently and have it work so well.
