I Don't Know Why
Norah Jones Lyrics

I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I'll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road alone
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
In Norah Jones's "Don't Know Why," the lyrics describe a sense of regret and longing. The singer describes their hesitation in coming to a loved one, waiting until they saw the sun and then leaving the loved one by the house of fun without any clear reason why they did not come. The singer then wishes they could fly away from this situation as they are left catching teardrops in their hand. The song continues on with the singer saying that their heart is drenched in wine, indicating that they are experiencing some kind of emotional pain or heartache, and that they cannot get the loved one off their mind.

Collecting the tears I've shed
My heart is drenched in wine
I'm completely absorbed in my emotions
But you'll be on my mind
Thinking of you will always occupy my thoughts
Forever
For all time
Out across the endless sea
Far across the vast ocean
I would die in ecstasy
Passing away filled with joy
But I'll be a bag of bones
But I'll end up as a lifeless skeleton
Driving down the road alone
Isolated on the open road
My heart is drenched in wine
I'm fully absorbed in my emotions
But you'll be on my mind
Thinking of you will always occupy my thoughts
