You can combine anything you want
I'll be around, you were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad, sad songs
Tuned to chords, strung down your cheeks
Don't cry, you can rely on me, honey
You can come by any time you want
I'll be around, you were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad, sad songs
Tuned to chords, strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around
Voices cry
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
And last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around
Our love, our love, our love is all we have
Our love, our love is all of God's money
Every one is a burning sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad, sad songs
Tuned to chords, strung down your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning your orbit around
Voices cry
Skyscrapers are scraping together
Your voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around
Last cigarettes are all you can get
Turning your orbit around
In Norah Jones’s song “Jesus, Etc.,” she is telling Jesus not to cry because he can rely on her. She expresses her willingness to offer her support and help him in any way he needs. The line “you can combine anything you want” suggests that she is willing to accommodate and accept anything he brings to the table. Jones continues to affirm the lyrics by saying she will always be around, acknowledging the fact that Jesus was right about the stars and that they all set at some point. She repeats the same lines of the chorus to emphasize her point.
In the second verse, Jones describes how “tall buildings shake” and “voices escape singing sad, sad songs.” This line portrays several different emotions, the shaking of the tall buildings may signify fear or shock, while the singing voices that escape may express sorrow or regret. She goes on to describe how sadness has strung down “your cheeks,” metaphorically speaking of tears. The “bitter melodies turning your orbit around” line may suggest that the person is stuck in a cycle of sadness and pain.
The last verse speaks about our love and how it is all we have in this world. She speaks of how our love is priceless, and every one of our actions is like a burning sun. The section reiterates the idea that the world can be challenging, but love is the one thing that can help us navigate through life. She continues to describe how “voices cry,” and “skyscrapers are scraping together.” The line “your voice is smoking” implies that the person may have been crying for a long time or that they have been talking a lot. In the final lines, Jones describes how “last cigarettes are all you can get, turning your orbit around.” It is saying that the person has nothing left but to continue to spiral downwards until they hit the bottom.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
