Lonestar
Norah Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This feeling I'm trying to fight
It's dark and I think that I would
give anything
For you to shine down on me
How far you are, I just don't know
The distance I'm willing to go
Hoping for some kind of sign
Lonestar, where are you out tonight?
This feeling I'm trying to fight
It's dark and I think that I would
give anything
For you to shine down on me
For you to shine down on me
In Norah Jones's song "Lonestar," the singer expresses her longing for someone who seems distant and out of reach. She invokes the image of the lone star, a symbol of Texas and the American Southwest, to convey her feelings of isolation and yearning. Jones asks "Lonestar, where are you out tonight?" suggesting that she is looking for a sign or some kind of connection with this elusive figure. She admits to feeling a sense of darkness and tries to resist these emotions, but ultimately acknowledges her desire for the star's light to shine down upon her.
The lyric "How far you are, I just don't know / The distance I'm willing to go" highlights the singer's determination to seek out this person, even though she may not know where or how to find them. The stone she casts into the sky is a gesture of hope, a symbol of her wish for some sort of sign or guidance. Through her poetic language and the haunting melody of the song, Norah Jones captures the bittersweet emotions of longing and hope that are familiar to many.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
