She's 22
Norah Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And she's loving you
And you'll never know how it makes me blue
Does it make you happy?
I'm holding on
To a thing that's wrong
'Cause we don't belong
And you make me happy
Does she make you happy?
You can throw away
Every word I say
I'm standing still
On this hidden hill
And I'm looking around
For the right way down
To your distant valley
Your flowers grow in the frozen snow
And I'd like to know if it's all a show
'Cause you sure look happy
Are you really happy?
You'll just throw away
Every word I say
You can throw away, ay ay
Oh oh
Does she make you happy?
Does she make you happy?
Does she make you happy?
I'd like to see you happy
Norah Jones's song She's 22 is a song about longing and unrequited love. The singer is in love with someone who is with another woman who is 22 years old. The first verse sets the scene - the person the singer is in love with will never know how much it hurts to see them with someone else. The second verse delves into the singer's own struggles with the situation. The singer is aware that they are holding onto something that is wrong but is unable to let go. The person they love likes their songs, which makes them happy. But the question that haunts the singer is whether the person they love is really happy with the new woman in their life.
The third verse is about the singer's attempt to find a way to connect with the person they love. They are standing on a hidden hill, looking for a way to reach the person they love in their distant valley. The snow and flowers that surround the person they love are metaphors for the conflicting feelings the singer has. They want to know if the person they love's happiness is real or just a facade.
Overall, the lyrics convey a deep sense of sadness and longing. The singer is clearly heartbroken that they cannot be with the person they love. The repeated question of whether the person the singer loves is really happy is an indication of how the singer is desperately trying to find a way to connect with them.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
