By the fire
The long day is over
The wind is gone
Asleep at dawn
The embers burn on
The sun will rise
The long day is over
The lyrics to Norah Jones's song The Long Day Is Over are introspective and indicate a feeling of tiredness at the end of a long day. The first verse mentions sitting by the fire, which is often used as a symbol of warmth and comfort. However, the exhaustion is palpable as the long day is finally over. The second verse indicates that the person is falling asleep at dawn, which suggests that the individual may have been up all night and the day has been long and exhausting. The embers continue to burn, but there is no reprise for the person in the sense that the tiredness cannot be shaken off easily.
The final verse indicates a sense of hope as the person acknowledges that the sun will rise and a new day will begin. This sense of hope can be interpreted as the person knowing that the struggles and difficulties of the previous day will pass and a new day will bring new opportunities. Overall, the lyrics to The Long Day Is Over are deeply reflective and highlight the importance of rest and rejuvenation that comes at the end of a long day.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
