Travelin
Norah Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You could never be a face in the crowd
So you're travelin' on, travelin' on out
Well you know I'd never say it out loud
But I'll be travelin' on, travelin' with you

Hey I'm too weak it's too much to follow
The past so strong
But now I don't think too much of the time
I'll just try to keep up

Ooh ooh
I can't believe what's happening now
Ooh ooh
I can't believe what's happening now

If you notice that I'm falling behind
I'm taking my time taking it all in
So call me when you get where you get where you're going
I'll keep travelin' on, travelin' to you

Hey don't be too hard on yourself
I'll be okay
Cause we won't leave this place any worse
Than when we came

Ooh ooh
I can't believe what's happening now
Ooh ooh
I can't believe what's happening now
Ooh ooh

I love the way it's happening now

Overall Meaning

The song "Travelin" by Norah Jones is about traveling and taking life as it comes, and how it affects a person who finds it difficult to keep up with someone else who is on the move. The lyrics are poetic and highlight the emotions that come with letting go, being present, and keeping up.

The first verse "You could never be a face in the crowd, So you're traveling on, traveling on out, Well, you know I'd never say it out loud, But I'll be traveling on, traveling with you" describes someone who is unique and stands out from the crowd, and who is also on the move. Norah Jones acknowledges that she will travel with this person, without ever openly expressing it in words. This may suggest that the person she is traveling with has a distinct and distinctive path that others may not understand or want to be part of.

In the second verse, Jones sings "Hey I'm too weak it's too much to follow, The past so strong, But now I don't think too much of the time, I'll just try to keep up." This verse touches on the emotional struggle of someone who is trying to keep up with other people, but finds it difficult to do so. The past is weighing them down, but they want to be with the person they’re traveling with, and so they accept that they will try their best to keep up without putting pressure on themselves.

The chorus "Ooh ooh, I can't believe what's happening now...I love the way it's happening now" suggests that even though the person may find it difficult to keep up sometimes, they enjoy the journey despite not knowing where they’re going or what will happen next.

I think it's good for her to explore the soft rock genre, and I don't like that critics and a lot of people nicknamed her "snorah" - I love her music, regardless of the genre she does jazz, folk, blues, pop, soft rock because she brings this element of simplicity in everything. It soothes me, and makes me think of happy memories, and doesn't make me sleep. "All a Dream" "Out on the Road" "She's 22" "Miriam" all brought out great songwriting skills that I haven't heard from her, so I'm loving this!

well i love norah jones voice. and love this album whether people like it or hate it, I am always open-minded about her music it beats the heck of most of todays music...Most people always have to use some old song and mix it....I think Norah Jones music is original.....it is always catchy and difinitely not boring....
