World of Trouble

With a kiss of folly
And you don't see it
As more
But after a while
When all the dogs
See you
Sneaking
You don't believe
When they tell you
You don't believe
Then
A world of trouble
Is all you see
Nights
When the phone rings
And it's so easy
To get up
And go back again
You don't stop
You don't think
To live without it
Knowing
That you'll never win
You don't believe
When they tell you
You don't believe
Then
A world of trouble
Is all you see
This is the last time
Or the beginning
Whenever you say
It's enough
While each day
And each month
Rolls out behind you
The lost time
Is calling your bluff
You don't believe
When they tell you
You don't believe
Then
A world of trouble
Is all you see
A world of trouble
Is all you need
Norah Jones's song "World of Trouble" is a haunting piece with a message about the dangers of addiction. The opening lines speak of how an addiction begins slowly, and it's easy to overlook the signs. The singer then describes how addiction takes hold, and the addict becomes isolated from the world, only finding solace in their addiction. The chorus repeats the phrase "a world of trouble," which serves to reinforce the addictive nature of the behavior.
The second verse speaks of how addiction can be all-consuming, and the addict doesn't think of anything else. They know that they are trapped, but they continue to feed their addiction. The world around them fades away as they become more and more dependent. The singer then describes how an addict will often lie to themselves, denying that they have a problem even when others can see it plain as day. The final repetition of "a world of trouble" suggests that addiction will inevitably lead to nothing good.
Overall, "World of Trouble" is a somber meditation on addiction and the way it can destroy a person's life. The lyrics are straightforward, but the melody is beautiful and mournful, lending the song a haunting quality that will stick with the listener long after it's over.
