By the fire
The long day is over
The wind is gone
Asleep at dawn
The embers burn on
The sun will rise
The long day is over
The lyrics of "The Long Day is Done" by Norah Jones depicts the feeling of relief that comes at the end of an exhausting day. The first stanza conveys a sense of calmness as the persona feels tired and is resting by the fire after the long day. The second stanza portrays a sense of peacefulness as the persona observes that the wind has stopped, and everything seems to be asleep at dawn. The embers still burn on, giving the impression that there is still some warmth to hold on to, even after a stressful day.
In the third stanza, the lyrics convey an acceptance of the end of the day. The lack of a reprise means that there is no need to continue the day once it is over. The sun will rise again, and a new day will begin. The repetition of the phrase "the long day is over" reinforces the idea that it is time to rest and recharge for the next day.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
