Dominus Frigoris
Nordafrost Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Morning crimson in the eastern sky
Purple clouds in blistering chilled air
Flesh-cutting winds from high north

Under pale skin inside shrinked limbs
Blood stucks and freezes in frostbitten veins
Bodies perish in eternal ice
Purple clouds - blistering chilled air
Flesh-cutting winds - from high north

Chorus :
Dominus Frigoris
Ira sua te capiat
Dominus Frigoris
Vis aeterna suo est

White covered mountain peaks point
Their claws vertically up high
Thin pines the spear-armed phalanx of frost

You have to obey you cannot
Resist the merciless cold
In the unhallowed realms of the Lord of Frost

White covered mountains - point their claws up high
The spear-armed phalanx - of frost

Chorus

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nordafrost's song "Dominus Frigoris" describe a brutal and unforgiving winter landscape. The first verse sets the scene with vivid imagery, as the singer describes the colors of the dawn sky and the harsh chill in the air. The second verse is even more striking, as the singer talks about the physical effects of extreme cold on the human body - blood freezing in veins, limbs shrinking, and bodies perishing in the cold. It's clear that the winter depicted here is not a gentle or picturesque one, but a brutal force of nature.

The chorus of the song is where the title comes in - "Dominus Frigoris" translates from Latin to "Lord of Frost." The repeated phrase "Ira sua te capiat" roughly means "May his wrath seize you" and "Vis aeterna suos est" means "Eternal is his power." The overall effect is to depict this winter landscape as a malevolent force, almost like a deity that demands obedience and reverence.

The final verse returns to the natural imagery, with the mountains and trees depicted as sharp and menacing. The singer describes the phalanx of frost, which sounds almost like an army marching across the landscape. The message is clear: in this winter world, humans are at the mercy of the elements and must respect the power of the Lord of Frost.
