Confidence
Normal Like You Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't feel like ever waking up
You don't look so bad your self today
Hear the words I say
I speak them you just run away
And I can't show
you how real,
And I believe,
that you could feel,
that you could feel something
When you're close there's things I want to say,
but I end up just not speaking at all
And if I spoke I fear you'd look the other way
A smile's not displayed,
my confidence erased
And I can't show
you how real,
how real things could be
And I believe,
that you could feel,
that you could feel something
And I can't show
you how real,
how real things could be
And I believe,
that you could feel,
that you could feel something
The lyrics of Normal Like You's song 'Confidence' are about the struggle of the singer to find their self-confidence. The singer confesses that they can't find their confidence on this particular day, and as a result, they don't feel like waking up. Despite feeling discouraged, the singer observes that their significant other does not look bad at all that day. However, the listener just runs away when confronted. The singer finds it frustrating that they cannot show their significant other how real things could be between them, and they believe the listener could feel something if only they could show them.
The second stanza talks about the fear of the singer to express themselves. Each time they try to express what is on their mind, they end up not speaking at all. The singer fears that if they spoke up, the other party would brush off their words and look the other way. The singer's confidence is non-existent, and they cannot even display a smile. The singer struggles with their lack of self-confidence, which has indeed become a significant hindrance to the possibility of a deeper connection between the two parties.
In conclusion, Normal Like You's song Confidence is about the struggle of finding self-confidence and being able to express oneself fearlessly. It speaks to how crippling self-doubt can be to an individual's well-being and personal relationships, emphasizing the need for people to find their self-belief and confidence.
